There are a few considerations you should take into account when choosing the most appropriate freestanding bath for your room design and for your plumbing. Firstly, there is the basic choice between traditional and modern designs. Traditional models tend to require chrome exposed fittings, whereas modern options often (although not always) have a skirt around the outside allowing for less expensive concealed wastes to be used. Secondly, there is the choice between single ended baths (with one slope in the bath) or double ended baths (with a slope at each end of the tub). If you have a symmetrical bathroom design the double ended freestanding bath will be the logical choice. The size of your bathroom will most likely be the deciding factor with freestanding baths as they require enough surrounding space to allow for access, cleaning and to provide the desired look.

Installing a freestanding bath When planning the installation of your freestanding bath you need to consider the position of the waste and water supply. Generally, the waste outlet should be as close as possible to the bath - either in the floor below or out through a neighbouring wall. Chrome pipe is available to take the waste water away however, the standard length of this pipe is only around 550mm. Then you need to decide whether to have deck mounted, freestanding or wall hung bath taps. Many freestanding baths do not have a thick enough or flat enough ledge to take deck mounted taps. And in some the ledge will also be too thick to allow for many wall mounted options. So measure carefully before selecting your brassware. If your chosen model of tub has exposed legs you may need to consider bath shrouds or pipe stands. Some models will support the weight of the taps enabling them to freestand but others will just cover the copper water supply pipes, so make sure of which one you are looking at before you buy.

Since it mounts in the corner of a bathroom, it takes up less space than a traditional style of tub. However, with a length of 1300 mm and depth of 1300 mm, there is space for stretching out and enjoying the experience. Customers choose either a 5 mm finish or Carronite finish, which will add years to the life of the bath. Heat retention is better with Carronite than a steel or cast iron bath, keeping the water warm. A moulded seat is the perfect spot to perch while the tub fills. With so many options for brassware on the market, customers can customise the look of the bath with a modern edge or a classic touch. The freestanding bath, like the whirlpool bath, is no longer just a beautiful luxury bathroom item that only the rich and famous can afford. No, today’s freestanding and back to wall baths are priced so reasonably that it’s not unusual to walk into your next door neighbour’s home these days and find one. Infact our freestanding bath suites are one of our most popular sellers such is the growing trend for these in people's homes.

Originally characterized by decorative feet and a roll top in a more traditional style you will now be amazed by the range we have available here at Bella Bathrooms. Freestanding baths now come in an array of shapes and styles that they are just as popular for modern themed bathroom spaces with the more minimalist designs as well as the ever popular traditional styles. View our extensive freestanding bath range and you will be surprised at the varied range on offer to you. It tends to be big bathrooms that can accommodate the space a freestanding bath needs so if you already have one of those then what are you waiting for? Free-standing baths tend to come in either vintage style (slipper shaped, single ended, black panelled) or ultra modern (double ended, thin-rimmed, oval or even square shaped). Freestanding baths are available in a wide range of shapes in modern and traditional styles giving you plenty of options to choose from. One of the many advantages of a freestanding bath is that it tends to make a bathroom look airier and even larger than it actually is because of all that space left around the bottom and side of the bath.

It’s also often the case that a freestanding bath is the focal point of a large bathroom. That’s because many bath designs these days tend to be rather sculptured and stunning. They practically demand to be looked at and admired. Other reasons to invest in a freestanding bath? Well, they certainly allow you to show off your fancy floor tiles. The second reason – and the one we like best – is that they positively encourage you to go out and buy a gorgeous faucet to match. Back to Wall Freestanding Bath For a modern freestanding bath design you can choose a back to wall freestanding bath which will fit neatly into a smaller bathroom space. The back to wall design helps it fit snugly against the wall of your bathroom and it might even mean you have room to add this type of bath to a more generous en suite space for the ultimate luxury. We have a good selection of these stand alone baths which are competitively priced to provide affordable luxury across a range of budgets.
