The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on floors that were bare, and they are particularly adept in removing hair from dogs. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tight spaces very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of a room.
It's still a great deal, especially if your home or office has a lot of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save some money. It's also extremely quiet and can be used while you're at work or in school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle however. And, if you need to, you can swap the mopping pad for a dry one in minutes.

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can mop floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and effective at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also features self-emptying dustbins, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets, but it's not as good as other hoovers when it comes to deep cleaning.
This high-performing mop and vacuum combination uses advanced sensor technology to dodge obstacles and pet waste and it learns the layout of your home over time for more efficient cleaning. You can modify its cleaning schedule and customize zones through the well-designed app. It has a battery life that is similar to other models.

The robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular look that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the boxy models from the rivals. It's among our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It comes with advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).
It's also the only robot vacuum or mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and it has an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.
As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an easy mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This could be a problem in mornings prior to work or during the night when you are trying to fall asleep.
It's also quite expensive however, not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's very capable however, it's going to cost you more and create more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum and mop. It has a number of advanced features that will help you forget your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank and washes and dries its mop pads.
The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to draw out floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection however, it wasn't reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.
Its vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also comes with a feature called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the home based on how dirty the areas are.
For bigger homes, it's worth opting for one with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one particular area of your house by using the app or voice controls. A stair mode can be useful if you have a lot furniture. For families with busy schedules, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be very useful.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is more intelligent than the price suggests. It vacuums well and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad and a reciprocating motion that cleans better that most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tried. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying base that is washable.
The well-designed iRobot application guides you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to set up a spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas for greater efficiency. The app also grants access to a host of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it can reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It also has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. And you can set up a spot clean that intensely cleans a localized area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and less expensive alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it is more likely to be stuck on low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums that we have test. It also comes with an app that is less intuitive and a small base station that doesn't double as a bin to empty.
