11 Methods To Redesign Completely Your Double Buggy From Birth
Buying a Double Buggy From Birth
There are plenty of factors to consider when selecting the perfect double buggy from the time of birth. We spoke with Fourth Trimester postnatal retreat expert Katie Billingsley for her advice on everything from seating options, age ranges to folding mechanisms and storage space.
A must-have purchase for active families This buggy will grow with your family from twins through to toddlers. It is light, has great maneuverability and can handle uneven terrain with ease.

What kind of buggy do you want?
Double buggys are great for transporting up to two children at a time, even if they are not of the same age. They can also be used as prams and have a reclining mechanism in each seat so your children can sit or lay down in various positions. Many have ample storage for everything from snacks and drinks to wipes and nappies. They're usually lightweight, easy to fold and are small enough to fit into your car boot. If you're a frequent driver, it's worth checking the buggy's maneuverability using the folded wheels, and also to get out and back into your car boot.
You might have seen this kind of double buggy on other moms strollers or even in one as a child. They are ideal for older siblings that want to keep up with you, or for twins. They typically come with a large number of seating configurations (including 'cinema' seats) for your toddlers to pick from. These are usually easy to steer, and if you opt for a model with a soft suspension, they are able to easily handle kerbs.
Tandem buggies, which are more simple to turn than side-by sides, are also very popular. This is because the second seat is positioned behind the first, instead of sitting on top of it. The seats are generally bigger and bulkier than a traditional side by side however, so make sure whether they are able to pass through doors or on public transport. They can be used to transport twins, a toddler, three children with the addition of an additional buggy board.
Lastly there are the'single-to-double' convertibles which can be used as a single pushchair from birth then convert to a double by attaching a second seat, carrycot or car seat to their clever frame. They're more expensive than tandem buggies or side-byside buggies, but they offer the flexibility of a single buggie and have a high selling price. They are easy to steer and come with large storage bins. They can also handle uneven surfaces. Some models even come with built-in ride-on boards and 'cinema seating' for your older child.
Do you have twins?
Double buggys are the ideal method of transporting your children, regardless of whether they are twins or older siblings. There are two primary types of double buggy - side-by-side buggies in which your children sit side by side, and tandem buggies where one child is higher than the other. Both can be fitted with two fixed seats, but side-byside buggies tend to be smaller in width to allow for access through doors. Tandems tend to be wider in general. They can also accommodate both an infant seat and a carrycot.
Do you have a child?
Being a parent to a child can feel like quite an overwhelming responsibility at first, especially when you need to be attentive to the baby. They may be a bit irritated if they are placed in an infant carrier while you push the older sibling along and so having a double buggy from the start will make life simpler. It can also provide your child with a sense of pride as they are able to be "big brother or sister" and help them adjust to their role.
The side-by-side double buggies can be a great choice for twins, as both children will share the same view. However they're heavy and heavy. We love the streamlined B-AGILE DOUBLE by Leclerc with its innovative frame that expands in width to accommodate two seats fixed and provides various configuration options, such as the second seat being used as baby carrier or a bassinet.
We recommend the Mountain Buggy Double Trailblazer to active families who like to explore. This innovative buggy starts off as a single pushchair and is then convertible into a double, which can include a second seat, a carrycot or a car seat (depending on the model). Its smooth ride is perfect for rough terrain, and it includes a number of clever features that will ensure that everyone is happy.
Do you need a travel system?
Double buggies are ideal for bringing your kids around in comfort, but they're not the ideal purchase for every family. You could use a single stroller, with a few attachments, such as baby straps and toddler carriers that permit you and your child to travel on their backs or in front.
If you decide to go with a double buggy there are three kinds to choose from: side-by-side, tandem and convertible. Side-by-side buggies have two seats positioned next to each other, so your children will be able to see each other. However, they tend to be wider than a single pushchair, and can be tricky to maneuver between kerbs. Tandem buggies provide a more compact alternative, with a single seat in the front and one in the rear, however they can be still quite large and heavy to push.
Convertible double buggies are fantastic because they allow you to convert your stroller to double buggy by attaching an infant car seat or bassinet to the frame. This way, you can keep your baby in their car seat until they're ready for a move into the main buggy seat. The Uppababy V2 is an excellent example - it can be used for twins, a toddler and one or more children with the optional PiggyBack Board.
Once your children are older and have more endurance, a double-buggy can also be used to accompany them on bike rides or other day excursions where they prefer to walk. It's important to remember that your children may not always like to be in a stroller and might become tired and disgruntled on longer outings.
Before you decide to invest in a double stroller from the beginning, take some time to think about the above points and the specific circumstances of your family. A reliable and sturdy double buggy will make life easier, particularly when you need to navigate through busy streets or busy malls.
