During our tests, we found that the IQ handled pet hair well. It was able to remove the majority of hair on floors that were unfinished, and a fair amount on medium-pile rug. It was less effective with shag carpets, where it had a hard time reaching dirt and dust embedded within the fibers. It was able to maneuver the legs of a chair, tiny spaces and even the base of an IKEA wooden step stool. We did notice it was a little slower on floors that were not paved, but it regained speed and performed more thoroughly than the other robots we tested.
The IQ is a more suitable option for the majority of users than the iRobot Roomba. It has a larger dustbin and lasts longer on charge, and is capable of maneuvering itself around obstacles. It also has a mopping attachment that can tackle sticky mess. The iRobot is, however, is better constructed and has less components that require maintenance or replacement and incurs fewer ongoing costs, and can even create virtual no-go zones using its companion application. It can even restart a cleaning session from the point it started if it runs out of battery before finishing the job. The iRobot can also be controlled via voice, which is a major benefit for many users.
