1000 Years and Hell

1000 Years and Hell

The 1000 years begins with the resurrection of the righteous. Rev 20:6 "Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years."

The earth will be desolate during the 1000 years, filled with the rotting dead wicked and roaming demons.

Rev 20:5 "But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished." Luk 17:37 "And they answered and said unto him, Where, Lord? And he said unto them, Wheresoever the body is, thither will the eagles be gathered together." Mat 24:27-28 "For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together." Isa 24:1 "Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof." Isa 24:3 "The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the LORD hath spoken this word." Jer 25:33 "And the slain of the LORD shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth: they shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be dung upon the ground."

Rev 20:1-3 "And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season."

The bottomless pit = a dark and empty earth, the great chain is the chains of his circumstances, being unable to tempt anyone, but rather left to himself to spend the age reflecting on what he has done, and foresee his coming punishment after the resurrection of the wicked.

Rev 20:7-10 "And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever."

Satan and the wicked will have their lives ended in this second death, after which we'll walk on their ashes:

Mal 4:1-3  "For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts."

People misunderstand that because hellfire is unquenchable and eternal, hell and the punishment must be eternal too. But consider Sodom and Gommorah:

Jud 1:7  "Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire."

The Bible says that these cities suffered the vengeance of eternal fire. Is Sodom still burning today? Or is it a pile of ashes that's mostly disappeared now? Nuclear bombs, once it goes off, is unquenchable. But Hiroshima and Nagasaki is not still burning today. Although unquenchable, the nuclear fire did eventually go out, because there is no more fuel left. Fire is eternal only as long as there is fuel. In a similar sense we can have eternal life only as long as there is God our Creator to provide it, since we can't generate life ourselves. So hell is not eternal, the death of the wicked is eternal, as if they had never existed. Malachi 4:1 says the fire will burn them up, and will leave neither root nor branch. Neither Satan nor his followers.

After this the Earth will be recreated new, and it'll then be eternal paradise.

2 Peter 3:10-13, "But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness."

Revelation 21:1, "And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea."
