The most effective robot hoover will clean and mop without requiring your attention, and leaves your floors spotless. Its surprisingly affordable price and high-end features (such as dirt detection) are great features.
Make sure to check your robot's brushes frequently for tangled debris and hair. Clean them as needed. Some models can also automatically empty their onboard dustbin into a larger bin at the base, which reduces the amount of fine dust released into the air.
1. Roomba Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro and its sibling the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've examined. They feature top-of-the-line motors that can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other premium iRobots (including the top model) they employ intelligent mapping to design precise floorplans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. They also feature carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it detects the presence of dirt on the carpet in order to get it cleaned quickly.
The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on floors that were bare and are especially adept at cleaning hair from dogs. There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to become entangled in shoes and socks and can't navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera to see around corners.
Still, it's very good to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also extremely quiet and operates while you're at work or school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming feature that's offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto-emptying dock, however. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of just a few seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can sweep floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as quick navigation make it easy to clean, and efficient in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also has strong suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets but it's not as good as other hoovers when it comes to deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors that help it avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the structure of your home over time and provide cleaner and more efficient cleaning. You can modify the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones through the well-designed app. Its battery life is average compared to similar models.
If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to pull back and extend its mops. This helps prevent cross contamination. Its flex arm is also perfect for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During testing, X30 Ultra was the quickest robot vacuum/mop that could sweep the entire house and had 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did an excellent job cleaning a range of rooms and floors with different flooring types, including certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was top notch and it swiftly eluded fake dog socks, turds, shoes and cables.
It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums, a feature that we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
With a sleek circular design that looks like a regular Roomba rather than the boxes, this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. cheap robot vacuum cleaner from iRobot is its most advanced and has advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).
It's also the only robot vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our testing. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it boasts its own self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with an intuitive mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's a noisy unit, which can be a problem if you run it in the morning before work or at night as you attempt to sleep.
It's also quite expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient, but it's more expensive and produce more noise.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It comes with a variety of advanced features that will help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device like Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and refills the water tank, and washes and drys mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and spot obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its more expensive rivals. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time hazards detection, though this wasn't foolproof in our tests and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.
The vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home according to the degree of dirt they tend to be.
For larger houses it's recommended to choose one with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one specific area of your home by using the app or voice commands. A stairway mode is useful if you own a number of furniture. For busy families recharge functions and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be very useful.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you would expect from its price tag. It has a great vacuuming performance, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using one pad and a reciprocating movement that is more efficient than most of the robot mop cleaners that we've tested. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying, washable base.
The iRobot application is designed to guide you through the mapping process, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to organize a spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas to improve performance. The app also provides access to a host of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, which means it can get to corners and underneath furniture more easily. It also has strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for hair of pets. You can also create a spot-cleaner that thoroughly cleans the area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are shaped like adorable eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is more noisy than the other top robotic vacuums we've tested. It also has a less intuitive app and a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
