It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on for long and don't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying dock, though. If you're in need of it, the mopping pad can be replaced with an awe-inspiring one in a matter of seconds.

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with a powerful suction and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets, but it's not as good as other hoovers when it comes to deep cleaning.
This high-performing mop and vacuum combo utilizes advanced sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste and it learns your home's layout over time for more efficient cleaning. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming, a feature that hasn't been seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

It is one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and spot obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its competitors with premium features. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time but this was not 100% foolproof during our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.
Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and also adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home according to the amount of dirt they tend to be.
If you have a bigger home, it is worth selecting a robot that comes with zones or spot cleaning modes. This allows you to tell the robot which area of your home needs to be cleaned using the app or voice command. If you have lots of furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. Finally a recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price would suggest. It does a stellar job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad and a reciprocating movement that cleans better that most mop cleaners for robots that we've tested. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.
The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, plan an area for cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to improve performance. The app also provides access to a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
