But, these key will not start the car because they will not have a transponder chip inside them. You can see the chip (yellow) in this picture below, it is a Dual Inline Package or DIP 18 pin chip. There are also a diode, transistor and resonator, all these parts make up the key's circuit.
Immobilisers
As car immobilisers became popular in the late nineties, the number of car thefts began decrease, however, thieves are savvy and always seeking ways to circumvent security systems. The first immobilisers could be avoided by using a scanner to find the chip's coding and copying it onto a blank key. But technology has improved and thieves have had to come up new tricks.
Fortunately the majority of the immobilisers that we supply and fit are Thatcham Cat 2 approved. This means they have been tested and certified by the Thatcham Research organisation. This not-for-profit organisation is the system of grading and approval for automotive aftermarket alarm and security equipment, including car immobilisers.
When the Thatcham approved immobiliser system is activated, it will send a coded message to the Engine Management System of the vehicle, preventing the engine from starting unless the correct key is present. This means that if the car is "hot wired" after entry, the engine will shut down within 30 seconds, rendering it impossible to start.
As with any computer, the immobiliser may be prone to problems. Sometimes, the internal battery or the key fob will require replacement. The best thing to do is to always seek out an expert to do the task as this will ensure that everything is installed correctly and that it functions.
Transponders
A transponder is an instrument that sends back an identifying signal when it is interrogated. This allows for the separation between aircrafts and signals an aircraft to air traffic controllers if it is using an active radar system. The information the transponder transmits back is different according to the kind of system.
Transponders can also be found on spacecrafts and satellites, allowing them to connect with Earth systems such as cell phone networks and other communication networks. These devices receive signals at a range frequency and then retransmit signals on a different spectrum, similar to how repeaters in land-based cell phone networks work.
Often, sophisticated passive transponders can be located on aircraft. They monitor flight status and provide information about navigation such as the aircraft’s position speed, altitude, and speed. Air traffic controllers utilize the data from these transponders in order to control flight routes and ensure security.
Many personal keys contain transponder chips, as well as aircraft transponders. seat leon key fob programming do not require batteries and are passive. This allows the ECU to read the transponder's signal whenever it is put into the ignition lock.
The majority of aircrafts have a switch on the flight deck that allows pilots to turn on or off their transponders. They can also select an "ident" mode that allows the transponder to transmit its unique squawk code and help it stand out on an air traffic control screen.
