1. iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The i3+ EVO and its sibling the i3 EVO are both identical robots that differ only in that the i3+ comes with self-emptying features. The i3+ is an excellent option for those looking for a a fully automated, hands-off cleaning experience but are willing to manually empty the dust bin when it is full.

Both robots do well picking up surface debris on carpets and hard floors, and they're excellent at moving around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates intelligent maps of your home that help the i3+ EVO navigate and clean in a way that maximizes efficiency. However, unlike the i7+ and other top rated robots we test, the i3+ doesn't have a feature for avoiding obstacles which means it can be stuck on things like socks or power cords and it may have trouble traversing transitions across surfaces like from hardwood to carpet.

iRobot recommends you clear out areas that the i3+ EVO will vacuum prior to when you use it, and include getting rid of any clutter or toys it may come across. It's also a good idea to keep the dustbin and filter clear so they don't become clogged with dirt. If the i3+'s internal bin is empty or the battery is low it returns to the docking station, and it automatically takes the dirt out of the docking station’s external dustbin. Then it continues cleaning where it started. The i3+ EVO's battery lasts for about an hour and a half continuous use, and takes about three hours to recharge.

2. iRobot i7+ Roomba

The iRobot i7+ is a top model from iRobot’s flagship line and comes with the most recent features. It is self-charging and self-navigating. But the most important feature is the self-emptying bin. This removes the need for regular maintenance.

In our testing the i7+ was quicker and more maneuverable than our runner-up which was the eufy RoboVac G30, and it took large pieces of pet hair from all surface types, including carpeting. Its biggest advantage over the eufy, though the dust bin is self-emptying, which eliminates a major source of maintenance and reduces the amount of time spent cleaning.

We were also awestruck by the i7+'s compatibility Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services, which we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning session and to move around the room and sweep a specific space. The process of connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and easy with the iRobot Home app. After being connected, to speak commands to the i7+, such as "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options for managing the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.
