10 Fundamentals About Item Upgrade You Didn't Learn In School
Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade
The stats of an item are improved by upgrading it, also known as "upping". Each upgrade increment boosts a stat linearly.
Players can recycle six items at a time to gauge the upgraded component of each item. The cost of recycling an item increases with its rarity and level.
Upgrade components
In Guild Wars 2, an item upgrade is a way to boost the stats of your weapons and armor. This can be done through various methods, including using upgrade components and upgrading an item's mark levels or rarity. Additionally there are many items that can be reforged, which can increase their stats.
You can purchase upgradeable items throughout the game. They are available in all over the world, as well as rewards for missions. They can also be crafted by players. Upgrade components are the primary method of upgrading equipment. These are items that slot into equipment. The majority of equipment comes with slots for upgrading, and many require a certain amount of upgrade. Some upgrade components give specific bonuses while others provide an overall bonus.
There are a variety of upgrade components that are available in the game. These include universal upgrades, inscriptions, and jewels. Universal upgrades, like gems and enchantments can be placed on any equipment, and offer less than upgrades that are specific to equipment. Glyphs are only available in gathering tools. They provide a variety bonuses, ranging from boosting the speed at which an item gathers to providing additional crafting materials.
Choose the item from your inventory, and then open the Upgrade window. This will display a preview on the right side of the screen, showing what the expected stats are after the upgrade, along with any required components or materials. If you don't possess enough of either the two, the Upgrade button will say Blocked.
The amount of upgrade components needed for a specific item can be seen in the upper-right corner of the Upgrade window. The cost of upgrading increases with the level of upgrade and rarity, but it can be reduced through a variety of methods, such as buying upgrades from a retailer or trading them to other players.
Most weapons can be upgraded using an upgrade to a prefix like an insignia, or a rune, and a lot of them can be upgraded with a suffix upgrade. These upgrades add an adjective to the item's name for example "Radiant" or "Minor Vigor".
Glyphs
Glyphs are a way to convey information via visuals. They move to grab the attention of the viewer and stimulate curiosity. The animation of glyphs mimics body language, which makes them more effective at conveying a message across linguistic barriers. Glyphs can also trigger a feeling of familiarity in the brain, which increases retention of the message.
Each glyph can increase the value of a stat by a specific amount. This is clearly displayed on the item, when you open it in the Glyph Storage. This is not the actual amount by which the glyph will increase a stat, but the maximum amount it can increase a stat. The actual value of the glyph is determined by the tier and the quality of the item you're enchanting it to.
Most upgrade components inserted into items are not able to be repaired or replaced without removing the gear in question, with the exception of legendary equipment and upgrades. If you do have an unusable rune or glyph that has not yet been added to your gear, you can move it to a different piece gear by using the upgrade Glyphs context menu on the Glyphs panel. This will create a new Glyph Set with the selected glyph.
If you are looking to remove the glyph from an item then you'll need to save it using the help of a Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. The item on which the glyph is installed will be destroyed, however the upgraded item can be salvaged using the glyph shards.
When you remove an item after adding a glyph, the shards from the glyph will vanish. You can also add a glyph to your equipment to give it an additional benefit. For example the glyph Deferred Damage can store damage for the wearer and deal it slowly rather than all at one time. This is beneficial for those who take many hits from enemies but do not want to be overwhelmed.
Reroll tokens
Reroll tokens let players alter the affixes they use on their equipment and weapons, and can be found in a variety of ways such as in mistery boxes or as a rare drop from skulled creatures, or from killing bosses. Each reroll gives the player an unspecified affix, which is typically better than what they had prior to. Reroll tokens are also a good way to reroll weapon stats, which can be upgraded to provide better damage or other perks.
Items that have been rerolled will not appear in the item upgrade menu, however, they can still receive upgrades. These rerolled items can be recycled by pressing the "upgrade" button, which changes the layout of the item window and allows up to six items to be chosen to recycle. The level gauge is increased by recycling an item. The amount is determined by the item's rarity and its own level, so items with higher levels are more valuable to recycle than lower level ones.
In addition to tokens for rerolls, players can use Star Remnants and Reroll Tokens to roll the traits of a weapon in an upgraded unit. Rerolls are based on a % chance to determine a weapon's trait. If it rolls higher, the weapon is upgraded. If it rolls lower the weapon is left as it was. Weapons can be upgraded up to three times.
Rerolls are a great option to upgrade an item, but users must be aware that it will reduce the total ilvl of the weapon due to the number of rerolls used to increase it to its final ilvl. This effect is most noticeable on rings and Diadems, since they have no other options for raising ilvl.
The Reroll system has been criticized by players for being too expensive and it's more equitable to let players pay for it using money or food items which would allow players to modify their build without spending too much time and energy. The developers aren't planning to implement paid rerolls at this stage in the game's development. Instead, they're planning to add an option to change the race in the future.

Leveling
There are a number of ways to level up an item upgrade. The first method of leveling up an upgrade for an item is by increasing the upgrade amount. This boosts the value of upgrading the stat. The second is to boost the upgrade effect, which increases the healing or damage of a particular stat. Additionally you have the option to upgrade the base item to a higher upgrade type. The upgraded item will keep its iLevel, but will have the upgraded effects of the upgraded item.
It is crucial to keep in mind that upgrades can be random. In most cases the chance of a better roll will come from the glyphs, however there are also possibilities for greater or special rolls. The type of the item will determine the iLevel. If you upgrade a unique or rare item to a special item type, then it's likely to gaining an upper level.
Upgrades can be costly particularly if you are upgrading gear from the standard track to legendary. The price will be based on the item's iLevel base and the amount of upgrade levels it comes with. Certain upgrade tracks require crests in order to get to the next level.
If you're lucky, your upgraded item will be at the maximum level of its upgrade track, and will unlock an additional bonus effect. This will provide a significant boost in the upgrade value of the item. The bonus effect is different with each upgrade level. Generally speaking the upgrade effect is increased by a number of +3.
The iLevel will also change according to the upgrade path and base level. For example, a weapon that is upgraded from a rare or exclusive item to a rare or exceptional item is likely to be upgraded to the enhanced defense of the new base item type.
