It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums, a feature that hasn't been seen in other robot vacuum/mop combos.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
This mop and vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba model than the boxy models from the competitors. It's among our most attractive looking robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It features advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads autonomously).
It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that scored a perfect 10 in our testing thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured lighting system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.
Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with an easy mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take the care of vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, cleans and dry its mop pads.
The smart robot uses an array of LIDAR and structured light to map out the floor plan and detect obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its top rivals. It also has a camera mounted on the front to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite 100% foolproof during our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner has an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has a feature called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house depending on how dirty the areas tend to be.
If you have a larger home, it's worth selecting a robot that comes with the option of cleaning zones or spots. This allows you to inform the robot of which area of your home needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice command. If you have a lot of furniture, a stairway mode is also a good option. For families with busy schedules recharge functions and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off could be very beneficial.
