Leveling is a feature that allows players to increase the stats of their weapons armor, helms, and trinkets. The Upgrade Station allows you to combine an item with upgrade materials and then pay a fee in Happy Tickets or Happy Stars. The process will consume upgrade components and grant the item a higher level, granting the item an additional boost in that particular area. This process can continue until the item reaches its maximum level.
Items that have upgraded base stats display an icon of blue in their slot. Upgrade components, unlike enchantments cannot be added to more than one item at the same time. Furthermore each upgrade component will require a certain number of items to be applied in addition to an initial level for the equipment.
The Upgrade Station is divided into two slots. On the left, players can add an item that they wish to upgrade. On the right side, a preview shows what the gear looks like at its next level. Once players have enough materials by pressing the yellow arrow, it will begin the upgrade process.
An item of equipment can be upgraded up to five times. Each time it is upgraded, the base stats of the item will be increased by only a tiny amount. The maximum level of an item is 19.
Once an item reaches the highest level, upgrades will no longer be available to it. Also, when an item reaches a certain upgrade track (e.g. Upgrades for the Veteran or Explorer track ) they will be discounted.
Upgrade components are a kind of equipment that can be inserted into weapons, armor, trinkets, and gathering tools to offer an added bonus or effect while the equipment is being used. They can be purchased from vendors, looted or obtained through quests or exchanged between players. Upgrade components can be replaced by acquiring new ones. However, this could destroy the old upgrade.
Requirements
Item upgrades give players the ability to increase certain attributes of armor and weapons that they currently have. The requirements to upgrade an item differ based on the type of item, but typically you'll need Dilithium and a variety of Upgrade Tokens (various options available).
Items can be upgraded by adding upgrade components to weapons and equipment. This gives them extra effects or an increased quality of the item. The upgrades can be acquired through a variety of sources in the game, including crafting, purchased from the Trading Post or karma vendors, looted from bosses and raids, or dropped from dungeons. Once an upgrade element is added to an item, it isn't able to be removed or replaced freely, however, the glyphs that are used in gathering tools can be swapped out without restriction.
Upgrades can increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity. Some upgrade components come with additional modifiers that can improve the item's stats.
The upgrade to the helm "Foundation of the Sun" for example, increases base defense and adds an additional 20 percent chance of blocking. The dps "Wildfire", on the other hand, increases weapon damage.
Some items are better off being upgraded less for their increased stats, but more because it allows players to get the maximum amount of value out of a perfect roll on the item. For example, a perfect-rolled 200/6 504 armor set piece is highly valued in the melee PvP community and could be worth 20-50 times the value of the unupp'd version.
The game will highlight the requirements once you choose the upgrade component that goes into the item. These include the type of item (either Armor or Weapon) and the tier of the item, the Upgrade Token required, as well as the amount of progress needed to complete the upgrade.
Once you've satisfied the requirements for an upgrade, the game will place the item in your inventory, and the progress bar will update to indicate how close to completing the upgrade. You can also check the status of an upgrade by going to any item upgrader NPC.
