پیام نوام چامسکی برای دانشجویان ایران به مناسبت روز دانشجو

در طول سالیان سال، دانشجویان نقشی رهبرانه در حرکاتی داشته‌اند که جهان بهتری را به ارمغان آورده است. مداخله‌گری آنان اغلب در پی اطمینان بخشیدن به این بوده که مدارس و دانشگاه‌ها موسساتی آزاد هستند، اما اغلب اهداف بسیار گسترده‌تری داشته است که بر کل جامعه تأثیر می‌گذارد- حتی بر سرنوشت جهان؛ مانند اعتراضات محیط‌زیستی که در آن دانشجویان و دانش‌آموزان نقش رهبری دارند.

دانشجویان در مبارزات چشمگیر این روزهای ایران در چارچوب جنبش «زن، زندگی، آزادی» برای آزادی و حقوق ابتدایی نقش برجسته‌ای ایفا کرده اند. امیدوارم این جنبش به لطف حضور دانشجویان منجر به گشایش مسیری برای ایجاد تغییرات مورد نیاز برای جامعه‌ای که سال‌های سال است با سرکوب خشن و شدید روبه‌رو است، گردد. این دانشجویان به دلیل شجاعت و تعهد مثال‌زدنی‌شان سزاوار حمایت کامل ما هستند، آن‌ها الهام‌بخش همه‌ی ما در سراسر جهان هستند.

Over the years, students have often played a leading role in actions that have brought about a better world.  We see that now in many places around the world.  Their engagement has often sought to ensure that schools and universities are free and independent institutions, but quite often has had much broader objectives affecting the whole society – even the fate of the world, as in today’s environmental protests, often with students in the lead.

In the remarkable struggles for freedom and basic rights in Iran today, in the framework of the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement, students have played a prominent role, greatly to their credit, opening the way, let us hope, for greatly needed changes in what has been for far too long a harsh and severely repressive society.  They deserve our fullest support for their great courage and commitment, an inspiration for all of us everywhere.
