By now, you may have heard about the benefits of owning and using a Zero Gravity Recliner Chair. Succinctly, the position you sit in while in the chair mimics the feeling of being weightless. It takes pressure off of your spine. Your lungs have room to breathe and your legs are raised to lower your blood pressure. All of this provides measurable pain relief. Even in the slightly angled position offered by the Zero Gravity Recliner, you can still read or use your Kindle or iPad comfortably. Or you can just relax, listening to music, meditating, or watching TV or playing a passive video game. You also can converse easily with anyone either in person or on the phone. In the past few years, sales of these 0 gravity chairs have exploded, giving you a variety of choices.

In some cases too many choices! To assist you in choosing the perfect zero gravity recliner for your needs, I recommend that you take a few minutes to write down your responses to these seen questions. Answering them will make your search for the ideal 0 gravity chair – be it online or at a retail store – virtually pain free. Many chair and recliners manufacturers design for an average weight and average height. This means that if you are shorter than average or taller than average, the chair will prove to be uncomfortable than one designed with your body type in mind. The same is true of weight. If you are above the average weight intended for the gravity chair (or too wide) then you’re going to be disappointed in your purchase. It’s better to look for a chair that has your body type in mind so that you know it will last a long time and that you can sit in it without fear for your well being and comfort. This is an important question to consider because it will influence how much you may want to invest in a chair.

If you intend to make your 0 gravity recliner a permanent part of your living room or fitness room or Zen room, then it makes sense to look for a chair built extremely well. Just like anything, the more something with moving parts is used, the more likely it is to wear out. Inquire into the manufacturer’s warranty. Do they cover normal wear and tear? What constitutes a defective or malfunctioning chair? If you only expect to use the 0 gravity chair on occasion then you may want to save some money and get a quality portable model that can used indoors or outdoors. A soft blanket or down comforter can be put on top of an outdoor version of the zero gravity lounger and it will feel wonderful even if you use it indoors for extended periods of time. There are some beautiful zero gravity chairs on the market complete with wood trimming, plush leather and even built in heat and shiatsu rollers. They are designed, however, to be kept in one place. If portability is not an issue and you want a permanent piece of furniture (and have a permanent space to put it in) then these larger, heavier, multi function models may be a smart decision.

On the other hand, if you envision taking your zero gravity chair to tailgate parties, softball games or to the beach, then a portable model is the wiser decision. You should look for the lightest weight chair that still has the highest weight threshold rating and the highest warranty. Even if it means spending more now, it pays to invest in quality. I am a minimalist by default. So beauty, at least to me, is found in the simplicity and elegance of design. I don’t want all the bells and whistles on an anti gravity chair if I just want my back not to hurt! Determine early in your search for anti gravity chairs how pretty it needs to be. An older model chair that lacks no visual oomph might make sense as a purchase if you’re more concerned with function and less with aesthetics. If you want bragging rights when company, friends or family come to visit you, then you might want to look at some of the models that offer beauty AND function. For instance, I love the way the Outdoor Patio Orbital Lounger looks;

Or the Human Touch PERFECT CHAIR with the Maple base. The styling is something I’d be proud to show off and of course recline on every day of the week. I bought my first zero gravity outdoor recliner because I had a client who was older and couldn’t lie flat on a traditional massage table. So, I looked for a portable 0 gravity model that was built to accommodate larger sized people and was solidly built. I spent $90 at Bed, Bath and Beyond after visiting several stores including Target, Sears, Sam’s Club and The Sports Authority. The client was very happy with her energy work session and I felt comfortable working on her as she lay reclined. She had the benefits of light touch and energy work, plus the benefits of zero gravity. Two years later, I still have the chair and use it on occasion on our balcony during the short summer here in Wisconsin. Zero gravity chairs are beneficial for pain relief but they are not a cure for anything. Anything that can negate the impact of sitting on a regular chair is a welcome relief.

So, be happy with that benefit. Still, you should be clear about what you expect to happen by using your recliner before you choose to buy one. Like many other things in life, buying a name brand doesn’t always mean that it is the best, or that you are getting the best value for your money. Conversely, going generic just to save money can be a bad idea if what you are buying is poorly designed or made with inferior parts. Many manufacturers of zero gravity chairs have jumped into the retail side of the purchase by offering their chairs directly to the consumer. This might allow you to afford a better chair at a good savings (just pay attention to shipping costs). I advise that you also pay attention to how long the manufacturer or retailer has been in business, especially if the model you are considering has electrical or computer components. Always get the best quality you can afford. Prices for Zero Gravity Recliners vary dramatically. You of course are going to pay more for a traditional indoor model with leather and wood than you’ll pay for a portable outdoor version.
