Beginners Guide on Taking Care of Big and Small Cannabis Clones

So you just got a clone... Or two...

What do you do next?

Well first you need to figure out if your girl is ready to flower (grow buds) or not.

Presumably you want them to get at least 2 or 3 feet big with many branches before you put them into the flower cycle.

I know you can't wait to smell the buds and see all the sticky icky fat colas that she's gonna grow, but for that to happen she needs to be healthy and well taken care of first!

What to do with teenage clones:

If you bought a teen from me, then she's ready to flower.

 1. Put her in complete darkness for 36 hours. You don't need to water or do anything during this time.

 2. After 36 hours of darkness you can take her out and put her on a 12/12 light cycle. That's 12 continuous hours under a lamp or the sun, then 12 hours in the dark, daily.

 3. Get a pot, preferably fabric, and some coco mixed with perlite. Read up about how to do a transplant. Carefully put her in her new home.

 4. Get some type of container you will use to mix the nutes. A plastic storage bin works perfectly. Use a thick black one. (twss). Or if you only have a couple plants a 5 gallon bucket will do.

 5. You will need a pH meter, and an air pump is highly recommended.

 6. Fill the rez with water and add your nutes. You should have A+B and CalMag that's the bare minimum. Read the directions and add the proper amount of nutes to the amount of water that you have in your rez. Another nutrient for root growth is important too but they are pricey. 'Heavy roots' is a good one. Also get pH down while your at it.

 7. Take a ph reading. It will be somewhere around 7. Use pH down adding only a few tiny drops at a time and get the pH to 5.5. If you go below you can add more tap water to raise it but don't add too much or it will dilute the nutes.

 8. Once that is ready you may water your girls as needed. Be careful after the transplant they will be stressed so make sure you don't flood the roots. Avoid watering under the stem try to water around it getting only the new coco wet. If you have a plastic or any type of non cloth pot be extra careful to not overwater after the transplant. You can be less careful after about a week or two.

What to do with baby clones:

If you got small clones, you should already know what to do more or less, and having a grow light is especially important, but possible to substitute.

 1. Since they are still too small to grow buds yet, they have to be on a 12/12 light cycle, and need to be kept in veg until they are ready. You can accomplish this by keeping them on a 24 hour always on cycle, a 20 on / 4 off cycle, or an 18 on / 6 off cycle.

 2. The 18/6 is recommended just make sure it's consistent and the lights are on and off at the same time each day.

 3. If you do not have a grow light then you should place you plant under the sun during the day, and at night put it directly under a desk lamp to keep it awake for the right amount of time. This won't really grow it but it will keep it in veg until it grows enough from the sun to be in flower mode and start growing buds.

 4. To water them follow steps 4-8 from the guide on teens. Keep them in small pots or cups of coco until they're ready.

Notes:

If you are using actual soil instead of coco then the pH should be 6.5-6.8. Soil needs less nutes but still needs additives and maintenance to feed and keep all the healthy bacteria alive. Also soil is more prone to having pests. And it is much easier to flood the roots and overwater in soil.

Temperature should be around 70-75F

Humidity should be near 50%

Don't worry about the buds and the amount that you end up with at the end. If you kept your plants alive through the whole harvest that's already a win. If you kept them alive and healthy then the big buds will come naturally. If you did that then you can start researching how to improve the quality and amount of buds for the next harvest. This isn't an easy hobby, but it sure is rewarding.

Goodluck!
