​​​​​​​Arab coalition declares a two-week ceasefire in Yemen

​​​​​​​The Saudi-led Arab coalition in Yemen announced a comprehensive cease-fire that will enter into force today, Thursday, and will continue for two weeks.

The spokesman for the coalition, Colonel Turki al-Maliki, stated that the coalition announces a comprehensive ceasefire in Yemen for a period of two weeks, starting today, Thursday (12:00 local time), which can be extended in order to create the appropriate conditions to implement the invitation of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Yemen for a meeting Between the government, the Houthis, and a military team from the coalition, under the supervision of the UN envoy, to discuss his proposals on steps and mechanisms to implement a permanent ceasefire in Yemen, steps to establish humanitarian and economic confidence, and resumption the political process between the Yemeni parties.

He pointed out that the step taken by the joint forces comes based on its previous announcement supporting the Yemeni government’s decisions in accepting the invitation of the United Nations Secretary General for a ceasefire to confront the consequences of the outbreak of Corona Virus (19 - COVID), as well as the invitation of the United Nations Special Envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths, to stop the fire and De-escalation.

The United Nations welcomed the statement issued by the Syrian Democratic Forces on 24 March, in which it expressed support for the Secretary-General's call for an immediate global ceasefire to facilitate the global response to Covid-19.
