Solutions for Cooling Down My Memory Foam Mattress? Q: I have Graves Disease and that makes me generally warm, I have a memory foam mattress, and sleeping on foam is ridiculously warm. I wake up so over heated I have to get out of bed and cool down. It's really impacting my sleep. I want to buy a new mattress, but don't have the money so I thought maybe there could be some sort of mattress pad that might insulate me from the foam. I bought one, but despite the claims, it doesn't insulate any better. Editor: Please share your ideas and suggestions with Wolsey in the comments below - thanks! • Got a question? Email yours with pic attachments here (those with pics get answered first) Organic Wool Mattress Toppers Use one of our very comfortable organic wool toppers to keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer by wicking away perspiration. You and your skin breathe all night long. If you have a memory foam bed (all of which are made from petrochemicals) or traditional mattresses (nearly all of which utilize petrochemical foam padding), then your lungs and skin are breathing in these chemicals all night long.

Wool toppers provide a greatly improved layer of ventilation that helps insulate your lungs and skin against the possibly harmful off gasses of memory foam and traditional mattresses. If you own a traditional inner spring mattress or memory foam mattress, your body and skin are sleeping less than an inch away from possibly toxic polyurethane foam. When we set out to make our organic mattress toppers we decided to use only certified organic cotton fabric and soft and fluffy certified organic wool toppers filling. We fill our wool toppers between two layers of certified organic cotton fabric, resulting in a finished thickness of about 2" or 3". Organic wool toppers are inherently dust mite resistant. You should air out your wool mattress topper, preferably once a week but at least once a month, by placing it outdoors in direct sunlight. Shake it out vigorously to help loosen the wool toppers fibers and leave it outside all day. You will love the fresh feeling you get when sleeping on your freshly aired wool toppers.

Do not wash, as the wool toppers and cotton used will likely shrink. We can add elastic, at no charge, to the corners of your pad if you would like. Custom sizes are also available; add comments to the shopping cart and tell us your dimensions. You'll pay for the closest larger size. Because of the intimate nature of these toppers, they are not returnable. If you would like us to add elastic to the corners(at no charge) enter your mattress thickness here: Organic Wool Puddle Pad (Mattress Protector) Our uniquely thick puddle pads are made using 1/4" thick (500 gram) wool toppers. They serve as a natural mattress protector, and are quite ideal for all applications. The pads are made from needle-punched certified organic wool fiber. The needle punch process compresses the fibers tightly together, and the result is a water-resistant, protective layer of wool toppers. Use these pads under your sheets. They will not change the feel of your mattresses. Liquid will only get through if you rub it into the fibers.

We oversize each puddle pad to accommodate for some shrinkage, so it can be removed and machine-washed on wool setting. Top load washers will likely ruin the pad. Treat these like you would treat a wool sweater. Machine drying damages and binds the wool toppers. We recommend you hand wash on cold and line dry or use a low/no heat dryer. Because of the intimate nature of these pads, they are not returnable. It is no problem to make a particular custom size. Simply order a larger size and add comments in the shopping cart specifying the size you want yours cut to. We charge an additional $15 for a custom wool topper size. Long Twin size (39x81) Long Full size (54x81) Organic Wool Mattress Pads We quilt these mattress pads using 1.8 ounces of certified organic wool toppers per square foot between two layers of certified organic cotton fabric. They are designed for use under your sheets. The quilting will reduce heat by 35%. Since most foam mattresses sleep warm, this pad makes a big difference.

It won't lessen the feel or support of our foam mattresses (memory foam included). The quilted pad adds a layer of protection: it will give you time to quickly strip your bedding and sheets if something spills on your bed, so the spill won't soak directly through the sheets and into your new mattress. The pad also helps prevent body hair from entering the mattress. Since we do not accept returns on mattresses with body hair, this is an important addition. Spot clean any stains using a sponge with mild soap. Dry in direct sunlight. Direct sunlight freshens wool toppers and kills any bacteria or bed bugs that might be hiding in the pad. You should air out your wool toppers products at least once a month, but once a week is best. Do not machine wash/dry, as it will likely result in shrinkage and the wool toppers bunching up. These pads will fit a mattress up to 14" thick. Twin (39x76) ................. $124.28 Long Twin (39x80) ......... $129.85 Full (54x76) .................. $161.81

Wool Topper Pads .We’re all princesses frightened of sleeping on peas these days – how else to explain the rise in popularity of mattress toppers, that squidgy extra layer of comfort under your sheet, atop the bed. Memory foam is popular, but complaints include its sometimes strong smell, plus it can retain heat so well that the bed boils. As an alternative, natural fillings are growing in popularity and availability, so I decided to undertake a home trial.
