I have noticed the same problem with similar doors on other homes. Is there a solution?A--If these are standard storm-screen doors with typical closers, they can be adjusted to close more quickly and to eliminate the sagging.

To realign the door, start by checking the screws that hold the door`s hinges to the frame and the frame to the wall. All mounting screws should be tightened securely. If the door still sags, open it and slightly loosen the screws that hold the door together at each of its corners and in the middle of the side rails(there are usually about 20 of these screws). Loosening the screws will allow the door`s shape to be shifted so it will match the frame opening; hold the door in the correct position and retighten the screws. If the sag persists, buy a screen-door brace at a home center or hardware store. The brace is a threaded rod with a turnbuckle in the middle and screw openings at the ends. Install the brace diagonally across the bottom half of the door, slightly loosen the door screws described above and adjust the turnbuckle until the door is pulled into alignment. Retighten all the screws. Most storm-screen doors have pneumatic closers shaped like a tube with a sliding rod extending from one end.

Make sure the closer is firmly fastened at both the door and frame ends; if it isn`t, tighten the attachment screws. A pneumatic closer also has an adjusting screw in the center of the tube at the end attached to the door. Turn the adjusting screw counterclockwise to increase the closing speed of the door.Q--I recently had a new Armstrong vinyl floor installed in my kitchen by a reliable company. Whenever someone walks on it, their feet stick slightly and there is a clicking noise when they lift their feet off the floor. I called the installer and was told to use warm water and ammonia to clean the floor. What can I do now?A--When new products develop problems, the best course is to try to work through the installer or manufacturer, or both. A spokesman at Armstrong World Industries in Lancaster told me the correct procedure in this case would be for the installer to personally examine the floor and, if a solution can`t be found, to call in an Armstrong representative.Like many large manufacturers, Armstrong has a consumer-affairs department.

The toll-free number is 800-233-3823.Q--Our 9-year-old house is built of bricks that were badly stained with red mud when the house was being built. I am thinking of renting a sandblaster and using it to remove the stains.A--Sandblasting is not a good solution, because the abrasion can remove the hard outer surface of the bricks along with the stains and leave a soft surface that is subject to rapid deterioration. It`s possible the stains can be removed by water cleaning, such as pressure washing or by chemicals such as muriatic acid. Both of these methods of cleaning bricks can cause problems if not correctly done, so the work should be done by professionals.Q--Our central air conditioner seems to run too much. After the temperature set by the thermostat is reached and the unit shuts off, only a few minutes pass before it cuts back in again. I had the unit and thermostat checked and was told everything is okay. A--If the house is poorly insulated and sealed, the temperature inside will rise again quickly after the air conditioner shuts off and cause the unit to cycle back in again.
