The four new photos were shared by the royal couple through the Kensington Palace twitter feed to celebrate Princess Charlotte’s 1st birthday – and it is only the third time the young princess has been seen in public. The photos show Princess Charlotte smiling as she toddles along with her wooden walker at Will and Kate’s Norfolk home Amner Hall and pulling herself up onto chairs in her pretty nursery. “The Duke and Duchess are happy to be able to share these family moments, ahead of their daughter’s first birthday,” said a comment accompanying the pictures.
“We hope that everyone enjoys these lovely photos as much as we do.” As she looks directly to the camera, and her mum behind the lens, she bears a startling resemblance to her older brother Prince George. Although she’s only just turned one, the young Princess has received lavish gifts from 64 countries around the world including a silver rattle from the President of Mexico and his wife, hand-knitted booties, cards and books. For her birthday Prime Minister David Cameron gave her a book of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales while the Obamas made sure that they didn’t turn up empty handed when the visited the royal couple’s Kensington apartment, gifting a jigsaw puzzle and a soft toy version of their Portuguese Water Dog, Bo. The Prime Minister of Canada Stephen Harper sent Charlotte a snowsuit and made a £55,000 donation in her name to the Immunise Canada, while gifts were also received from world leaders in Chine, Australia, New Zealand and Bhutan.
Perhaps the most practical of all of her presents was a set of biodegradable nappies gifted by her aunty Pippa Middleton. Kate Middleton’s sister spent £4 each on the eco-friendly products, which are made of natural mull cloth.
