Decided to do a bit of experimenting with a raw timber floor upstairs. after sanding, filling and sealing, I used ronseal Quick Drying "Teak" woodstain, with a RONSEAL yacht varnish to finish. Looks fantastic, and more than happy to recommend it. Date submitted by: 12 July 2016 Ronseal yacht varnish - Satin Picked up ronseal yacht varnish at B&Q to finish the exterior of a large 3 pane teak door. It had been exposed to weather so the old sealer was worn and faded in the lower section from sunlight.
After cleaning and Light sanding the ronseal finish applied smooth and evenly, looking significantly better. Anxious to apply a 2nd coat but so far, excellent results. Date submitted by: 14 May 2016 ronseal yacht varnish - 'clear' This product is not 'clear': It is translucent, but it has a brown tinge to it that darkens oak significantly;this isn't evident until the wood is covered and dry - It has taken our new very expensive staircase to an almost walnut colour: Not what we intended - and not what it says on the tin! In retrospect (and too late in our case) there is evidently a ronseal 'crystal clear' which looks more likely to be'clear' in the usual meaning of the word. However, in Rows and rows of similar products, it isn't easy to distinguish between 'clear'and and 'crystal clear'. Our Yacht Varnish is a traditional outdoor varnish great for long lasting protection on bare or previously treated wood. It’ll protect your wood from the weather so it won’t turn grey in the sun, and it’s flexible so it won’t crack, peel or blister. Make sure it's a clean dry day (above 10°c) and the wood is clean and dry. If you've varnished it before but it’s in bad condition, remove the coating to get the best results. Check you’re happy with the finish by trying it on a small hidden area. Because it’s clear you can still see your wood, but it may darken it’s natural colour. Prep - Stained or Varnished Wood Sand down to help the varnish stick, then clean with white spirit and leave to dry. Prep - Bare Wood Sand down to remove any loose wood, then clean with white spirit and leave to dry. First, give the varnish a good stir. Then brush on in the direction of the grain. You’ll need to do 2-3 coats leaving 8 hours between each coat.
Before the final coat give it a light sand and wipe with white spirit. Usage Areas: All smooth planed exterior wood. Not suitable for decking. Compatibility: New or previously stained wood.
