How did you both meet? Ben and I first met while we were both working at Jamberoo Recreation Park! I was 17 at the time and Ben had just turned 18. How did he pop the question? Ben planned a surprise weekend away in Sydney for the two of us. We had been out during the day for a beautiful lunch at The Rocks, returned to our room to get ready for dinner and when I got out of the shower Ben was waiting, naked, on one knee with a ring.
What type of wedding did you plan, what was your theme? We always wanted an elegant black and white wedding so that’s what we stuck with! We hired black tiffany chairs from Chair Hire Co, black candelabras from Southern Style events and incorporated black and white flowers for our centerpieces from Bunches. We wanted it to be a special day surrounded by all of our family and friends. Which quirky features made your wedding unique? In my family we have a tradition that all the females that get married carry my great grandmother’s rosary beads in their bouquets and I was happy to carry on that tradition. We also chose to make a donation on behalf of our guests to Dr Charlie Teo’s foundation, Cure Brain Cancer. Dr Teo operated on my twin sister and myself 3 years ago and saved our lives so it was something that really meant a lot to us. Our guests wore purple ribbons on the night in support of this cause. Where did you hold the ceremony? We held our ceremony at St Francis Xavier’s Cathedral in Wollongong which is just around the corner from City Beach.
It was nice and close for our guests which means they didn’t have to worry about travelling throughout the day. Why did you choose City Beach? After a bad experience at another reception place, we cancelled our booking 3 months before the wedding. We saw an advertisement for a wedding open day at City Beach and when we got in touch the staff were so incredibly friendly, helpful and accommodating it made our decision very easy. We had both been to weddings at City Beach previously so knew the food, atmosphere and staff would be just what we wanted. The food tasting we attended at City Beach was amazing! The food was delicious and the view was hard to beat. They also had many wedding suppliers at the food tasting which really helped us with different ideas to incorporate into our wedding. This lead to us hiring a mirror wishing well off Eccentric. What was the most memorable moment from the day? The whole day was everything we had ever dreamed of! Being able to get married surrounded by the people we love will be something we will cherish forever.
Our bridal party and families made the day so special. My hair and make up artists, Hair Elegance by Kimberley and Maria T Make Up, photographer, David Paillas Photography, Clipper Limousines and City Beach Function Centre made our day just perfect! We felt so relaxed and could enjoy every minute thanks to all the help from these people. Your favourite funny story from the night? The weather leading up to our wedding was cold and rainy so when we went for photos at Mt Kembla we had a feeling we would find some leeches around. After being there for 5 minutes I could feel something on the back of my leg. It kept getting higher and higher but I tried to ignore it as I HATE leeches and didn’t want to freak out. It kept getting higher and I couldn’t take it anymore, I screamed out and said “I think I’ve got something on my bum!” I was bent over with my dress hitched up to my waist while 1 of my bridesmaids went searching for a leech. It was stuck to my bum! She pulled it off and Ben stood there laughing and pointing at me.
Unfortunately that wasn’t the only leech we found that day. What was it like dealing with Wedding Coordinator Amy Young? We were absolutely blown away by Amy the first time we met her. She made us feel so incredible comfortable and as if we were a part of the City Beach Family. She was so accommodating and made every second so special for us. We honestly couldn’t thank her enough for all the hard work she put in to help make our day so perfect. We were also lucky enough to meet Hannah who was replacing Amy while she was on maternity leave. Hannah was an excellent replacement for Amy even though she had big shoes to fill. We would recommend City Beach to anyone! We could not fault one thing about City Beach in regards to our whole wedding experience. Any advice for couples about to tie the knot?
