Released in 2014, the LEGO UCS Star Wars Sandcrawler 75059 is considered an old collection and with that, you know what it means. It means it is awesome like other older sets like the Darth Vader TIE, X-Wing, AT-AT and the likes which, in my humble opinion, are way more better than subsequent releases. As we learned from the film, Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, the 'real' Sandcrawler was a mining vehicle used on the planet Tatooine until later abandoned by the corporations that deployed them as the resources found were of low grade. The hulking, slow-moving vehicles were extremely rugged in order to stand up to harsh conditions, and therefore, once abandoned, made ideal homes for natives such as the Jawas. The Sandcrawler features a large armored body, offering the Jawas protection from attackers and plenty of space inside for their workshops (the Jawas are junk scavengers).The LEGO model mimics the sheer size of the Sandcrawler with a total of 1695 building elements, many in realistic rust tones in order to simulate the sand-battered hulk of the vehicle from the movies.The set builds four large double-tracked tank style treads for that correct look. A knob on the back of the finished model 'steers' the vehicle by rotating the rearward set of treads.There is also a large opening tailgate / rampway that opens at the front of the crawler in order to load cargo aboard, plus a separate working boom crane.
Finally, there is a lift-out control center room in the midsection with detailed consoles and tools (a panel in the roof is removable to access this area and is replaceable with the boom crane module if desired).In order to recreate the scene from A New Hope, LEGO includes a C-3PO minifigure and an R2-D2 droid minifigure. There are other LEGO Star Wars minifigures in this set, such as three Jawas with brown hoods covering haunting yellow eyes, and cloth capes, an Owen Lars minifig, an R5-D4 droid, an ASP droid, and three other buildable droids, namely a Gonk, R1-G4, and Treadwell. Counting all of the droids built with the set, there are 11 LEGO Star Wars minifigures altogether, as shown in the ToysPeriod LEGO set reference.This is a very hard-to-find offering from the 2005 Star Wars series of sets.There is a 96 page full-color instruction manual included which shows how to build the Sandcrawler step-by-step.As this is a very complicated and detailed model, it is generally suggested for experienced builders aged 13 and up.
