Grippers or grip pads keep furniture from sliding on hard floors. Furniture grippers prevent furniture legs from scratching and sliding on slippery floor surfaces such as wood or tile. Without furniture grip pads, some furniture legs may scuff the floors as well, leaving behind marks that are difficult to clean. While many varieties of pre-made furniture grip pads are available in stores, you can make your own, custom-shaped to fit each furniture leg, for less cost. Rubber mesh shelf- and drawer-liner material, designed to protect stored items while protecting the storage surface, provides a workable material well-suited to new life as furniture grip pads. Place a piece of scrap cardboard underneath one of the furniture legs that needs a gripper. Trace around the leg with a pencil and remove the cardboard. Cut the cardboard along the traced lines with scissors. Unroll a rubber mesh shelf liner and place the cardboard shape atop it. Cut the mesh out around the cardboard shape, using the cardboard as a template.
Repeat the process for each leg on the same furniture piece, for instance, three more times on a table with four legs. Place one cut-out rubber grip pad under each furniture leg to keep the furniture from sliding. If using the pads on furniture that is designed to move around, such as dining room chairs, flip the chairs over and adhere the grip pads to the legs with silicone adhesive, allowing the silicone to dry completely before setting the furniture upright. Furniture designed to stay put, such as a table, does not require adhesive for its grippers.
