John Lewis has great bedlinens, but they're not exceptionally cheap - you get what you pay for, and they will last for some time. Try Bhs, Debenhams, Marks and Spencer and House of Fraser as well. Primark on Oxford Street might have linens, but I tend to lose the will to live just passing the shop as it's that busy so I've not explored too thoroughly; try Matalan as an option. There is a shop on Great Castle Street (just north of Oxford Circus), just to the west of Regent Street and next to a branch of Caffe Nero that's got bedlinens on offer at fairly knockdown prices.
The shop has been there since the 80s and may have what you seek. If you do want cheap and cheerful, consider one of the larger markets: Whitechapel, Chapel Market, Ridley Road or Walthamstow - any of these should have at least one stall with linens. If you don't want to stroll through a market, try a bigger branch of Sainsbury's or Tesco as larger shops will have white goods on offer. Where are you staying in London? I requested information for my son, who will be spending a year in London studying for his Master's Degree. He'll be in the Bloomsbury area and doesn't want to spend a lot on the basic necessities. Greatly appreciate the recommendations! The big shops I mentioned have websites, so you can check what's available there. Chapel Market isn't too far from Bloomsbury: either of the numbers 30 or 73 along the Euston Road call near the market just off Upper Street at the Angel so your son could have a look there. Just had another thought: www.argos.co.uk with a shop on New Oxford Street just east of Tottenham Court Road (handy for Bloomsbury).
There are plenty of options available, with pillows starting at £3.99 for a pair, sheet sets on sale from about £6 and duvets on offer from about a tenner. Very much worth a look if these are items he'll use but not wish to keep after his time in London. Cheap, value fo rmoney ------ best bet is any of the big supermarkets... Not sure whether places like Poundland sell linen, but tey would be cheap and Matalan would also be a good betArgos is exactly what I was looking for. I bought some wonderful stuff from Primark. If he goes as soon as the shop opens on a weekday, it won't be crowded at all. Argos is an excellent suggestion indeed, with only problem that they might not have exactly what he wants on the day that he chooses to shop. Pre-ordering online is the solution to that. I noticed the ability to pre-order for in-store pickup at Argos. The Croydon Ikea is the only one reachable by public transport. (Rail from Victoria to East Croydon ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/en/s/planjourney/query then tram to Amphere Way. The Ikea is about 5 yards from the stop and can be seen from there.) I find Ikea sheets a bit rough, but they are colourful and Ikea is great for all sorts of inexpensive houshold items. The quality and the style are usually pretty good for most things.
