Canadian officials say 25-year-old John Bennett told police he bought the air mattress at Walmart and crossed the border after being denied entry into Canada at the border crossing in Calais, Maine. Bennett was soaking wet when he was arrested by police late Wednesday. He pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced Thursday in provincial court in Saint John. The Calais, Maine, resident told police he was worried about the safety of his pregnant Canadian girlfriend. Canadian officials say he’ll be deported after he completes his sentence.
