The headache is ours this year, you can relax as you prepare to sleep on your new mattress.Sales data will be coming, but there is more to our guide than a Black Friday promotions and price list. Read on for tips on mattress shopping, detailed comparisons of all deals and our best deal picks. Here were the top deals of the year so far. We expect to see more 2016 Black Friday sales by the middle of November.Price and savings are only part of the picture when it comes to getting the best deal on a memory foam mattress, as you also probably want a bed with will provide comfort for years to come.

Some lower-quality beds may be ideal for a room that doesn’t receive much use, but don’t expect them to last a long time. A quality bed may last a long time, but you will likely pay more for it. Having the right expectations is key to having a satisfactory experience.Having the right knowledge will help you get a great Black Friday or Cyber Monday deal, also. Here is a quick overview of the most important things to know about memory foam beds before you buy. Check out our more detailed guides to choosing a memory foam mattress, firmness choices, or choosing a mattress to relieve pain.Density is one of the top ways to compare and contrast memory foam mattresses. It refers to the weight of one cubic foot of the foam, and you may see it expressed as 4 lb or 4 lb/ft3.Less dense foams compress more easily and have less buoyancy, but also tend to have fewer complaints of heat, odor, and difficulty moving. Higher density foams feel more buoyant and have more resiliency, but have higher odor and heat complaints and some may find dense, temperature-sensitive foams difficult to move on.

Denser foams are also more expensive to produce and tend to last longer. The density of core or support foams also plays a role in durability and comfort. Mattresses with medium density (3.5 to 5.0 lb) tend to have higher overall satisfaction rates versus very low or very high density foam beds. Cheaper mattresses tend to use support foams 1.8 lbs or lower. Medium to higher end beds usually use high-density foams in the 2.0 to 2.5 lb range. High-resilience foams over 2.5 lbs are fairly uncommon. There are different types of memory foam used in mattresses, and knowing the how their qualities compare can help you pick the right mattress.Memory foam is traditionally highly temperature sensitive, using body heat to mold and contour to your body for reduced pressure. Since a percentage of people find this type of foam to sleep too hot or to create a “trapped” feeling, some brands have introduced other options.Gel memory foam includes liquid gel or gel beads which are said to help draw heat away from sleepers.

Reviews tend to show slightly lower heat issues, but professional testing and Consumer Reports finds little to no difference. These type of mattresses usually have a layer of gel foam paired with traditional memory foams and polyurethane foams.Plant-based memory foams or bio foams are another option, which replace a proportion of the petroleum-based ingredients with plant-sourced alternatives. These foams offer a more eco-conscious alternative, and are claimed to sleep cooler and respond faster to movements. Reviews do tend to have fewer heat complaints, and Cargill testing found them to disperse heat quicker than gel foams. This is attributed to the more open cell structure of plant-based memory foam mattresses. When comparing memory foam beds, pay attention to the layers within the bed and how it is constructed.Memory foam mattresses are usually 8” to 14” thick, but only a portion of that will actually be visco foam. Not all foams react like memory foams. Manufacturers often use other types of foams in lower layers of the mattress.

Usually a mattress will have at least 2” of memory foam, but depending on your size and sleep style, you may want a thicker layer for optimum comfort.Ask for a full breakdown of each layer’s thickness and material type. The uppermost layers should ideally be memory foam to get the contouring and pressure-relieving sensation.  There may be multiple layers of regular foam, gel foam, and support core foam, and knowing the densities of each layer can help you compare beds and get an idea of quality.Aside from the foams within, the cover materials are the other significant point of comparison for this mattress type. The cover fabric should be breathable, so materials like cotton, wool, rayon and other performance fibers are usually considered ideal. Celliant is a fabric that has been clinically proven to improve circulation and reduce pain. Retailers like Amerisleep have incorporated it into their mattress covers for the added health benefits,Keep in mind, fancy cover upgrades may not be worth big price increases, as they will usually be covered by sheets and mattress protectors while in use.

Know what your preferences are and don’t spend too much to meet them.Fire proofing methods used within the bed are also concern for some shoppers. Barrier fabrics used in or below covers certified by Oeko-Tex or Greenguard offer options for those seeking to avoid chemicals and off gassing.Memory foam mattresses in general tend to have relatively good warranty and return policies. Ten years of full coverage/full replacement warranty is fairly standard for this category, and some also offer extended pro-rated periods as well. Coverage for higher-end brands usually includes impressions of 1” or less.Return policies for memory foam brands usually include 60 to 90 day trial periods with minimal return fees aside from shipping or small restocking fees. Be wary of offers with short or non-existent return policies as it may be indicative of problems with the product.A “?” is used to indicate a value that could not be found. “MF” is short for memory foam. Reviews are from retail sites or from review sites like Sleep Like the Dead.Based on the above factors, quality, prices, and owner reviews, here are the best Black Friday deals we’ve found this year.

Beds between $1000 and $2000 represent the middle of market, and tend to offer a mix qualities and values. You can find both beds with lower and higher densities, but most mattresses in this range have average or better warranties.Memory foam brands priced over $2000 are targeted towards luxury buyers.
