Fabric, mod podge & spray paint can work a miracle on a $20 plastic chair!Lawn furniture adds style and comfort to decks, patios, and other spaces, but cleaning plastic is not always easy. With so many different methods available to keep the furniture clean and looking good, consumers can decide which works well for them. From chairs and sofas to tables and outdoor benches, a little know-how and a few basic supplies goes a long way in keeping plastic lawn furniture in top shape so it stays functional for years to come. Thoroughly cleaning plastic lawn or patio furniture at least once per year keeps it looking good. Cleaning it right before winter storage is a good idea to ensure dirt and stains do not sit on the pieces for months on end. To give plastic furniture a thorough cleaning, mix 1/4 cup dishwashing detergent with 1 gallon of water. Scrub the furniture down with a cloth or a brush taking care to rinse the furniture completely to remove any remaining soap residue. For tough stains, adding OxiClean or bleach to the soap mixture is effective.

For simple dust build-up, rinsing the furniture with a garden hose often does the trick. There are several basic household items that come in handy for cleaning not only plastic, but other materials as well. Baking soda, vinegar, and washing soda are all good choices. Some are more effective than others, but they all work well to remove light to moderate dirt and debris. 1/2 cup to 1 gallon water 1/2 cup vinegar to 1 quart water 1/3 cup baking soda added to wet sponge Baking soda added to a sponge creates a type of mild abrasive that cleans dirt and stains without scratching plastic. When cleaning colored furniture, users should avoid chlorine bleach as it can cause the plastic to fade or discolor. Non-chlorine bleach is a better option. Outdoor furniture is susceptible to mold and mildew due to rain, dew, and humidity, but taking care of this issue is simple with a few products. Before using any product, ensure that it is safe for plastic. Bathroom cleaners designed to clean mold are an optimal choice for plastic lawn or patio furniture.

Spray the furniture down and scrub it with a soft bristled brush or cloth until it comes clean. Using a water hose, spray down the furniture to remove all of the remaining cleanser and let it dry before using it again. One safe, non-toxic product that users can apply to plastic lawn furniture is lemon juice. First place all of the furniture in the sun and leave it sit for around an hour. Rub lemon juice all over the plastic and let it sit for an additional hour or two until the lemon juice is completely dry. Rinse the furniture with water. Diluted bleach effectively kills mold and it is safe for use on white plastic. Add a half and half mixture of bleach and water to a spray bottle and thoroughly spray the furniture down. Rinse the furniture off with a hose and use a towel to dry it completely or leave it in the sun. Pressure washers come in handy when cleaning plastic lawn furniture. To clean the plastic, set the pressure washer to under 3,000 psi. Spray the lawn furniture down with the preferred cleaner and then use the pressure washer to go over the entire piece.

Allow the furniture to air dry or dry it with a cloth. Avoid using a pressure washer on painted pieces as it can cause the paint to come off or begin to peel. When plastic lawn furniture becomes faded or dull, bringing it back to life is not as hard as it seems. To add shine to the pieces, spray them down with a can of WD-40. Rub the product into the furniture and wipe away the residue. Allow the furniture to dry for several hours for optimal results. The easiest way to keep lawn furniture clean, whether it is plastic or another material is to store it when it is not in use. This is especially helpful during the winter months or rainy season. Patio furniture covers are also ideal for keeping plastic pieces safe from the various outdoor elements. Buying all of the supplies you need to keep your plastic outdoor furniture clean and ready to use is simple when you shop on eBay. Search for specific items if you have something in mind, or narrow down the large array of products by filtering them by price, size, brand, and type.
