Whenever I host a party, I always run out of chairs. Like most inner city apartments, my place is as cramped as the shrinking room from Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory. My friends usually wind up sitting atop my wobbly kitchen table, stressing me out to no end. In other words, space is a real issue for me. But this flexible chair could potentially be the solution to my problem. The Flexible Love 12 Seat Chair can stretch into a twelve person bench or collapse into a one person chair. You can even snake the chair around tables too. This unusual product is like a cross between an accordion and a slinky, the bendy toy that moves down the stairs one step at a time. This chair is no doubt a unique piece of furniture, but it's made out of recycled paper and that concerns me. It's eco-friendly, which is great, but how do I know the chair won't crumble under my weight? I'm really not looking to bruise my tailbone. Expand Furniture, the company behind this product, claims the "underlayer will remain structurally sound."

The chair will wear over time, but it shouldn't flatten like a pancake. I like the idea of furniture you can shape, but I'm not sure how comfortable it is for lounging. It's great if your bumping party calls for additional seats, but I can't see myself taking a nap on it. The chair doesn't seem to offer much back support. The chair is available on the company's website for $600. It's a steep price for a chair, but if you live in a tight space like me, maybe it's worth it. Expand Furniture creates transforming furniture with a multi-functional ability, including a 16 person bench, which can be folded away into a 20 centimetre wide structure Another piece of furniture on offer is the 'Flexible love 16 chair.'When fully folded, the chair, which is made of paper, measures just 64cm x 56cm x 19.7cm (25inch x 22inch x 7.7inch).But when extended out, in the same way that an accordion can be pulled to inflate with air, the tiny chair grows all the way into a 16 seat bench, measuring 64cm x 56cm x 720cm (25inch x 22inch x 283.4inch).

Incredibly, the seat is made of 100 per cent recycled paper, but can take 120 kg in weight per seat, or 1920 kg total. But despite being made of a cheap material, the chair comes at a cost, and will set buyers back $960 (£773).  The Vancouver-based firm has over 130 products on offer, which all transform from fairly simple structures into a more elaborate pieces of furniture. On its Facebook page, Expand Furniture claims its products 'will help you create space in your home that you did not know you had.'Among the 135 products is a range of smart wall beds.At first glance, the structure appears to be a wall shelving unit, with a white table. But when the table is folded back, the entire wall can be swivelled, revealing a hidden bed on the other side, which folds out.One of the other products transforms into what appears to be a cube-shaped seat into five individual stools. When one of the sides of the cubes is lifted, a series of frames are revealed inside, which become stools when the other sides of the cube are added.

The firm said: 'You can find space saving products in many stores, but we carry amazing or unique items that cost a fortune elsewhere, are hard to find and in many cases do not exist from other companies.' Trekking up and down long flights of stairs could soon be a thing of the past with the invention of a manual lift. The Vertiwalk contraption is a pulley operated elevator that is powered using your arms and legs. The designers hope the device will offer new possibilities for vertical space as more people move into crowded cities. The device require riders to manually propel themselves vertically using their arms and legs.Sitting in a chair, the user pulls two ropes with their arms, which moves the whole seat upwards. The user then pushes up with their legs, propelling them up the device. While that might sound exhausting, the intricate pulley system means that the contraption requires less than 10 percent of the energy needed to climb the stairs to use.As home prices gets higher and higher and the homes themselves get smaller and smaller, the demand for adaptable, space-sizing furniture is getting bigger and bigger.
