Be sure and buy a lawn chair BEFORE you go to Jazz Fest in New Orleans. I forgot to bring my lawn chair with me and bought a lawn chair once I entered Jazz Fest and it cost $ 65 dollars. If you don't have special tickets, you will not be allowed in certain stands that have chairs and are covered areas. Thus, you can either stand for hours out on the grass or bring/ buy a lawn chair so you can sit down and enjoy the music at certain stages through out Jazz Fest. However, that being said I want you to know that there are also a few tents and other areas that did have chairs you could sit on to watch performers perform their music (I.e. inside the racetrack grandstand area, the gospel tent etc. ) but sometimes, there were no empty chairs in those areas. If you want to see/ listen to the headline performers on the Acura stage, though, you can either stand in the standing room only area in front of that stage or you sit behind the spray painted lines on the grass (where you sit either on the grass or in lawn chairs to watch the performances on that stage).

Many people stake out their areas on the grass with plastic tarps on the ground which helps since the ground can be very wet and muddy after so many people are trampling across the area.It rained the day before Jazz Fest opened and the grass was already trampled down and very muddy in areas all across Jazz Fest (when I arrived at 12 noon this past Friday). Many people also have large flags on poles stuck in the ground indicating their location so family and friends could find them in the crowd, which I thought was a great idea. Bring a small poncho since it does rain frequently in the South and also sun tan lotion (maybe also a hat or baseball cap too). It does get hot and it was very muggy when I was at Jazz Fest yesterday. I put on suntan lotion but I still got a little sunburned while I was there. Dress for the occasion and realize it can be very warm/hot at Jazz Fest but it could just as easily be cool the day you go there. I suggest that you pack a small windbreaker just in case it is cloudy and starts raining on you at Jazz Fest.

I've never brought a chair to the Fest because I like moving around and don't want to carry extra things. Also I want to dance and not sit. So I guess it depends on your style. I agree that you should bring a rain coat or poncho. I've often times used it to sit on. So who did you enjoy seeing this weekend? Did you discover any new bands? My advice - wear cotton! If you have to look at your clothing labels before packing, do it! Nothing feels more like a wet blanket on your body than polyester. The humidity is a killer. Don't forget the sunscreen, even it's it's overcast. I can't tell you how many unhappy, sunburned people I see in the restaurant the day after a festival. Eat lightly, drink more water than booze, get out of the sun when you can....and wear cotton!! Lawn chairs can be had at any drug store for about $15. Our friends told us, "don't drag them around," but we found they increased our mobility as we moved from one stage to another and always had an "immediate" seat.

And, it never stopped us from walking down to the stage front when we wanted to. Agreed, they're a problem for the Big Name Accura stage area, but we came for the smaller venues and it's been fine to bypass the "Stadium" acts. Ditto on the sun screen. Mitch Toups....he has played in Beaumont before but I had never heard him in person until Friday night. I walked around and heard several awesome groups..very original and loved the gospel singers especially too. Last year I watched the Beach Boys perform and they were awesome..sad they aren't all all performing together anymore... Edited: 7:51 pm, April 28, 2013 Sorry meant Wayne Toups not Mitch Toups.. When we went for FQF, we bought chairs at Walgreens upon arrival. We really enjoyed having the chairs. They were easy to carry - fold up into a narrow sleeve with a shoulder strap - and they fold easy so you can move around all you want. It is nice to have a place to sit and just chill. -:- Message from TripAdvisor staff -:-This topic has been closed to new posts due to inactivity.
