Desde luego, esa denominaciГіn ofende un poco mi sensibilidad. ВїCГіmo podemos hablar de Historia Universal si no hay un capГ­tulo dedicado a EspaГ±a, en cuyo imperio, en determinado momento, no se ponГ­a el Sol? Si no hay otro libro dedicado a Portugal, con quien EspaГ±a se repartiГі el mundo en un tratado sancionado por el Papa; si tampoco hay otro capГ­tulo dedicado a China; si no hay una menciГіn a los grandes imperios africanos que, en su momento, amenazaron a Europa (almorГЎvides, almohades) o que proporcionaron el oro sobre el que se basaron las economГ­as europeas... (imperio songhay). Alianza habrГ­a hecho mejor en agrupar esos libros como (algunas) estampas de la historia universal.Dicho lo anterior, tambiГ©n conviene seГ±alar que Asimov hizo un excelente trabajo divulgativo en sus libros de Historia, faceta menos conocida de un autor famoso por sus obras de ciencia ficciГіn. Me imagino que tuvo a todo un equipo de recopiladores de datos a los que que luego Asimov dio conjunto y un tono de novela que no se puede soltar hasta acabarla. Los pasajes llevan intriga que incita a la continuaciГіn de la lectura y estГЎn preГ±ados de una deliciosa ironГ­a y, a veces, hasta sarcasmo.Este libro dedicado a los griegos clГЎsicos no es el mejor para mis intereses, pero estГЎ a la altura y contiene deliciosas anГ©cdotas. Lo leГ­ hace un cuarto de siglo pero todavГ­a no se me han olvidado algunos pasajes referidos a la Magna Grecia y, de forma especial, a la legendaria ciudad de SГ­baris cuyos habitantes, los sibaritas, han encarnado en el imaginario popular el lujo y refinamiento enfermizos.Debo advertir que la colecciГіn Asimov en general no se apoya en los mГЎs recientes descubrimientos y corrientes de la historiografГ­a moderna: tanto mГЎs si consideramos que el autor publicГі en inglГ©s estos libros en los aГ±os 60. Incluso algunas de las ideas que difunden ya habГ­an sido cuestionadas por historiadores del momento. El valor de Los griegos reside en ser una obra de divulgaciГіn muy entretenida para el lego en la materia que se quiera formar una idea de conjunto.Yo no releerГ© este libro: me faltan demasiadas obras maestras de la literatura universal (La IlГ­ada o La Odisea, u obras menores de los griegos como Las guerras del Peloponeso de TucГ­dides), como para regresar a esta obrita que, sin embargo, me arrancГі unas buenas sonrisas. Con todo, recomiendo su lectura a quien le interese la historia, a quien todavГ­a no se haya aficionado a esa rama del saber o, simplemente, a quien quiera pasar un buen rato.
