It's about an hour drive from Downtown Victoria. The walk was easy (about 20 min each way) although by the end my 4 year old was pretty tired out. You can walk down the valley and get a closer look at the trestle. Rain or shine, the kinsol trestle is worth the trip. Easy parking, 1km(ish) from Southern access, beautiful view, great hills and paths below if you want a workout. Even my mom made it and she has limited mobility. Looking for a longer trek? Continue along the old railroad grade for as long as you like . Cowichan Valley trail system... It's a very easy walk from the parking lot to this spectacular trestle bridge. Really recommended for a short outing that packs a big bang. You can make it longer by just keep walking past the bridge. An on leash dog area. After 13 years on the island, we finally made a visit to walk the section of the Cowichan Valley trail that includes the Kinsol Trestle. The walk was made all the better by it being a cloudless Autumn day. The conclusion was that it was another place we should have gone to long ago for a day out..
Being our first time to Vancouver Island my cousin suggested visiting the Kinsol Trestle which we found amazing. A short walk from the parking lot and being a part of the Trans Canada Trail it was a great outing. A little exercise and seeing the hidden treasures of the Island was fantasticNeeded better signs for directions. Would be weather dependent as its outdoors only. Is about a 10-15 minute hike to see each direction. This restored trestle is a couple of kilometres down the old railway bed from a parking lot so the walking or bike riding is easily done by most. I often ride my horse down this wide trail. As part of the trans Canada trail this is an important historical feature of this part of Canada. We were on a bicycle trip this time but have visited the trestle many times over the years watching the restoration with anticipation and excitement. This is the accomplishment of the community who fought hard to save it. Congratulations and well done. We stumbled upon this quite unexpectedly and thoroughly enjoyed both the 1km walk from the car park and the walk over the bridge and back.
