Friends were visiting Gretna yesterday, 29th December, they parked in the north car park and saw the Chapel, decided to visit Gateway then have lunch at the Chapel. When they went for their refreshments found the building was closed despite various signs advertising that it was open and what was on offer. Not a very good advert for the premises,... If you are shopping in Gretna Outlet it is worth seeking out the tearoom at the Chapel. It is just opposite the North overflow car park. They make sandwiches fresh to order and made up some sandwiches that weren't on the menu for us non-meat eaters. The bone china cups are a nice retro touch. You can eat your food... Lovely wee tearoom with quirky decor. Staff very welcoming & chatty giving info re weddings & renewal of vows in the small adjoining 'chapel'. Tea & coffee were excellent & prices extremely good - only £2 for a cafetiere of coffee & £1.50 for a pot of tea.
Well worth a visit. The inside of the chapel looks very romantic, nicely decorated and lovely flowers, slightly tacky but it's what you would expect. Visited the coffee shop and asked the young woman about the video and wedding dress exhibition went out of her way to get everything ready for us as it was obvious they had been storing items in their exhibition... Popped in here as the service and food offerings in the nearby Outlet Village are generally very poor. First impressions suggest that the decor and fittings are a little 'tired'. The 'browny' coloured walls could do with a freshening and the 'wax' table covers are a little dated. However, the service is first class. My wife had the chicken and... We were very disappointed to find that the price had gone from £12.50 for two people on the first occasion which we thought was a reasonable price, to £18.00 today. Although the food was ok, the sandwich fillings were very basic, scones ok but... I am sorry you were disappointed this time. The price increase has been from April when all suppliers increased their costs and the increase in the minimum wage. We have never made butter or Jam or indeed stated these are homemade items. The sandwich fillings have been the same from opening. Again apologies for your disappointment A nice little stop close to the M6 and a welcome alternative to a service station. Tea and cakes were choaen, and we were not disappointed. Good strong tea with a good selection of homemade cakes to choose from. The Victoria sponge was beautiful, very moist (good to have a traditional sponge which was not dried out in a fridge).
