VitraOrganic ChairInformationProducts of the familyDesigner Organic ChairCharles Eames & Eero Saarinen, 1940The Organic Chair – a small and comfortable reading chair – was developed in several versions for the 1940 ‘Organic Design in Home Furnishings’ competition organised by the Museum of Modern Art in New York. With its sculptural shapes, the design was ahead of the times. But due to the absence of suitable manufacturing techniques, the armchair never went into production. Not until 1950 did it become possible to manufacture and market organically shaped seat shells in large quantities, as exemplified by Charles and Ray Eames's famous Plastic Armchair or Saarinen's Tulip Chair. The Organic Chair is also available in a version with an extended backrest and longer, wider armrests – the Organic Highback armchair.

The Organic Conference version can be used as table seating.Hopsak (28)Other coloursCosy (10)Other coloursCredo (12)Other coloursTonus (13)Other colours2)Seat shell: laminated.Upholstery: polyurethane foam with fabric cover.Legs: black ash or natural oak.Glides: fitted with plastic glides for carpet, felt glides for hard floors additionally included.VitraTip TonInformationProducts of the familyDesigner Tip TonEdward Barber & Jay Osgerby, 2011Tip Ton defines a whole new chair typology: the solid plastic chair with forward-tilt action. Its name refers to the dual sitting positions provided by the chair – from a normal position, Tip Ton can be tilted forward a few degrees where the chair then stays in place. The forward-tilt position, until now the preserve of mechanical office chairs, straightens the pelvis and spine and thus improves circulation to the abdominal and back muscles. In a 2010 study, ETH Zurich – one of the world’s leading universities of applied sciences – investigated the health benefits of a forward-leaning sitting position.

The results confirm increased muscle activity in the abdominal and back areas, which boosts the supply of oxygen to the body. Tip Ton makes all of this possible for the first time ever in the form of an economical and robust plastic chair, thereby opening up many new areas of use.Tip Ton is made of polypropylene and manufactured from a single mould without any mechanical components. This makes the chair extremely durable and 100% recyclable. Tip Ton can be stacked up to four chairs high and comes in eight different colours.8)Backrest, seat, base: polypropylene. Stacking: Tip Ton can be stacked up to 4 chairs high on the floor, up to 15 on a stacking trolley. A stacking trolley is separately available.Outdoor use: the colours earth grey, ice grey, glacier blue, basic dark and white are suitable for outdoor use.Note: special additives retard the fading of colours due to UV radiation. However, if the chair is exposed to sunlight for prolonged periods, the colour may change over time. We recommend limited exposure to sunlight.

Are you passionate about beautiful things? Do you love the Eames Lounge Chair, the Aalto Stools 60, the tubular steel furniture of Marcel Breuer,… We have the biggest stock of Vitra , Artek and Thonet in Europe! Based in Switzerland, the Vitra company produces furniture for the home, the office and for public spaces – Vitra for the home is part of the Space collection. Collections by American modernists Ray and Charles Eames and George Nelson form the foundations for the group that works with leading international designers – Antonio Citterio, Jasper Morrison, Hella Jongerius, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec – to produce a collection that aims for both high functional and aesthetic longevity. Through its Vitra Campus architecture, the Vitra Design Museum, workshops, publications, collections and design archives, Vitra could also be described as a philanthropic design supporter. View the Vitra collectionVitra furniture has included designs by Charles & Ray Eames and George Nelson since 1957.

Due to this long history and years of cooperation with progressive designers, a wide branching furniture collection has developed with furniture for the office, home, and public spaces. These three areas constitute the course of the Vitra brand. Whether the Home Collection, Office Collection, or Public Collection – there is Vitra furniture for every room: perfectly adaptable for different purposes. Home Collection The Home Collection includes the most famous Vitra furniture: the undisputed design classics. Furniture by great designers such as Charles & Ray Eames, Verner Panton, or George Nelson are well-known by design enthusiasts. Many of these furniture designs have been produced by Vitra for decades. The - both optical and qualitative - durability of this furniture has been an important factor in affecting Vitra’s reputation. Some examples are the Panton Chair or the Eames Lounge Chair which are both considered legendary today. Vitra however doesn’t rest on the laurels of its past: Even modern designers work on furniture for the home collection at the Swiss manufacturer.

Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, Konstantin Grcic, and Alfredo Häberli are only some famous names with which traditional Vitra cares to cooperate with. Vitra Furniture for the Office In Vitra’s Office Collection, the focus clearly lies on modern and functional office furnishings. The manufacturer uses modern technological achievements in order to create the perfect products for the modern, every-day office. The “productive office” is the aim of this philosophy: the working space should work for people, instead of people only using it. Of course, famous designers can be found here as well: Well-known, for example, is Alberto Meda whose ergonomic office chairs can be found worldwide. The connection of communicative rooms and relax possibilities is considered a perfect combination for privacy and wellbeing today. The continuous networking and the exchange with others is possible (“Net”) with this approach, while the demand of private rooms for concentration and regeneration (“Nest”) always remains in focus.

Regardless which of these areas one considers: Even at the beginning of the design process, an approach is used to ensure a perfect fit regarding the various areas. Engineers and designers work together in the creation process of a product, in order to keep quality, aesthetics, and functionality continuously on the highest level, helping the furniture manufacturer to keep its excellent reputation. Due to this interdisciplinary approach, today, much more belongs to Vitra Cosmos than just manufacturing furniture: Vitra also stands for the Vitra Design Museum, for a collection of modern furniture and their archives, for workshop and publications on design and for an architecture understanding, which includes constructions by Frank Gehry, Nicholas Grimshaw, Zaha Hadid, Tadao Ando, Alvaro Siza, Herzog & de Meuron, and SANAA in the main headquarters in Birsfelden (Switzerland) and at the Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein (Germany). Even accessories, sculptures, and objects for children are produced by Vitra.
