I cannot tell if the algorithm is solid, it's open source, so you can search for "putin's backdoor" function, but I'd not pick it too. Not because it's russian, but because it is not that widespread and tested. We were forced to use many soviet products here in the past, some of them were not that bad, though russian meant anything but safe :-)
