Herman Miller Aeron Chair Herman Miller Celle Chair National Mix It ChairRefinishing an oak office chair restores its original beauty. Oak office chairs can last for decades, even generations. The blond wood in these chairs is quite durable.

With proper care, an oak chair will last longer than many modern office chairs made of plastic or composite materials. As with other frequently used wood furniture, the finish on oak office chairs will wear over time, especially under frequent use. Refinishing the chair can bring back its original beauty and preserve it for many years to come. Place several layers of old newspaper on the floor or ground of your work area. Set the office chair atop the newspaper. Use enough paper to ensure you'll have room to place your supplies on the paper as well. Read the instructions on the container of varnish remover, or stripper, carefully. Open the can while wearing rubber gloves and protective eyewear. Apply the varnish remover to the chair using an old rag or foam paint brush. Cover all surfaces of the chair with the remover. If the removing compound is runny rather than thick, work on one flat surface at a time, setting the chair down on its back or sides to reach other surfaces until all finished wood surfaces of the chair are covered with varnish remover.

Scrape the chair with a paint scraper once the varnish remover has set on the chair at least as long as directed by the remover manufacturer's instructions. Place the glops of old finish onto the newspaper as you work, making the chair surface more visible. Continue scraping all surfaces of the chair until all finish has been removed. Rub the chair with a clean, damp rag to ensure all the old finish has been removed. Use steel wool or fine-grit sandpaper to remove stubborn areas of old finish. Repeat your applications of remover if necessary. Remove the chair from the old newspapers, discarding the scrapings and paper. Place a fresh layer of papers on your work surface, resetting the chair atop the paper. Apply polyurethane to the chair using a foam brush. Work with even, slow strokes to prevent air bubbles. Continue applying polyurethane until all wood surfaces are covered. Allow the finish to dry completely. Apply a second and even a third coat as desired, allowing the polyurethane to dry completely between coats.

Influenced by modernism principles, today's high-quality modern office furniture offers clean lines and eclectic looks. Guide to Classic & Traditional Office Furniture Traditional and classic office furniture conveys a look of timeless elegance. Favored as a style that will last throughout the decades, traditional office furniture is suitable for any business or industry environment. Whether furnishing an executive suite or a home office, traditional pieces can give a room an elegant, Old-World style that is simple and non-intrusive. High-quality classic furniture offers lasting durability and a tasteful appearance. Guide to Ergonomic Office Furniture It’s no surprise that activity is good for the human body; unfortunately, more jobs than ever before require employees to sit at their desks for hours on end, staring into computer screens and getting up only for short walks to the break room or, if they’re lucky, across the office several times.

As a result, workers’ happiness and productivity is affected by the lack of movement. Even worse, some may sustain injuries to their backs, wrists, necks and other areas of the body if the office does not provide ergonomic office furniture. Guide to Wood Office Furniture Wood is one of the most prevalent materials used to make business furniture. Because wood is sturdy and durable and is an easy material for furniture makers to work with, wood office furniture has been a popular staple on the marketplace for many years. Made from deciduous trees like Oak and Mahogany, its rich hues and attractive markings offer spaces a refined look ideal for any professional palette. Guide to Steel & Metal Office Furniture High-quality, attractive furniture can improve the moods of visiting clients, patients, guests and workers, which can boost sales and productivity. When considering design, there are plenty of options available, ranging from style, material, comfort level and color, but many designers and owners find the most success mixing styles to create a totally unique design all their own.
