With a high school, two middle schools and three elementary schools nearby, the focus is on study space, books and computers to help children and teens succeed in school. It is outfitted with the latest technology for computers, internet access and media production. The children’s area is filled with plenty of books. Every day, parents and grandparents are reading to children in the rocking chairs or comfortable window seats. The Newburg Library is located at 4800 Exeter Avenue, adjacent the Newburg Community Center and Newburg Health Clinic. This is the corner of E. Indian Trail and Exeter Avenue. From the Watterson Expressway – take the Newburg Road south exit. Continue on Newburg Road approximately two miles to E. Indian Trail. Turn right onto E. Indian Trail and continue in the left lane approximately a half mile to Exeter Avenue.
Turn left on Exeter Avenue to access the parking area for Newburg Library. The Library is located at the corner of E. Indian Trail and Exeter Avenue at 4800 Exeter Avenue. From Shepherdsville Road – turn at Poplar Level Road. Travel approximately 2 miles to E. Indian Trail. Take a right at E. Indian Trail and proceed for approximately one and a half miles to Exeter Avenue. Turn right on Exeter Avenue to access the parking area for Newburg Library. From Preston Highway – turn at E. The dream of building a library in Newburg became a reality in August 2009. The Newburg Library is the first new public library to open in Louisville in 13 years and building this library has been a community effort.
The Library Foundation has contributed a half-million dollars to Newburg, providing furniture, books and technology. In addition, Newburg residents and Friends groups from across Louisville have donated time, money, and books to open the doors of the library to the public. With more than 30 touch screen computers available for adults, teens, and children, a comfortable corner to sit quietly and read, and a versatile multi-purpose room, the library is ready to serve individuals and groups alike. Touch screen computers, self-check out, lights that automatically adjust to save energy—these are just a sampling of the new technologies and eco-friendly features you'll find at the Newburg Library. As part of the Library Foundation’s half-million dollar investment in Newburg, widescreen computers with “Touch-smart” technology are the standard. In addition, a “multi-touch” computer is available for educational programs, creative play and interactive learning.
This is a sample of the cutting-edge technology that drives the Newburg Library. You can quickly and easily check out your own materials, including multimedia items like books on CD and DVDs with self-service check out. Also, from the self-service kiosk you can manage your library account and pay any fines or fees using a credit card. Librarians use an ultra-portable tablet PC with a built in barcode scanner that is connected wirelessly, allowing them to assist patrons with information from anywhere in the building. Computers aren’t the only hi-tech features at Newburg. The building's advanced “green” technologies and eco-friendly architectural design have helped make the Newburg Library Metro government’s first LEED Silver-certified building. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, an internationally recognized green system providing third-party verification that a building was designed and built sustainably and with low environmental impact in mind.
