Trump
Two days ago I wrote a piece trying to explain in simple terms what was happening with Trump and the migrant children being separated from their parents.
I suggested Trump was lying when he blamed previous legislation, or the Democrats not voting for his immigration bill in Congress. He was lying when he said there was nothing he could do. I argued it was just a negotiating tactic to try to corner Democrats into supporting his bill, and electioneering in the lead up to the Primaries.
I was right.
Trump lost this one. He pushed the situation to an extreme to create outrage. That is his method. The aim is to force the other side to back down and compromise with him. This is what he did with North Korea, and in his eyes it worked (I don’t think it did). I think he’s doing the same with his trade wars. He thought he could coerce Democrats into voting for his immigration bill, otherwise he could blame them for the child separations.
This time he failed. The other side, and even his side, stood up to him and said he’d gone too far. He has now signed an order that says families must be kept together.
Trump said there was nothing he could do, that Democrats had to change the laws, and that he was just obeying existing legislation. He then signed and order, and it will stop. So he lied, he could have stopped this at any point, because he started it in the first place.
He lied, and was caught lying. I’m not sure he will realise either point, but Americans need to shine a spotlight on this one. It is different to previous lies because it got called out in front of everyone, plain and simple.
Let’s look at what Breitbart had to say (I won’t link to them but I will quote them):
“The fire hose of fake news from the establishment media this week on the issue of illegal immigrant families separated at the border is designed to mislead the American people”
“the only way to “reunite” these families is to release these illegals into our country.”
“There is simply no other way to “keep families together” other than to release them.”
I know it’s no surprise to you, but it will be to a lot of Americans: all of this was untrue and Trump just proved that.
Trump himself Tweeted, “Democrats can fix their forced family breakup at the Border by working with Republicans on new legislation, for a change!”
He told reporters at the White House: “I hate to see separation of parents and children. I hate the children being taken away. The Democrats have to change their law. That’s their law. That’s the Democrats’ law. We can change it tonight. We can change it right now. That’s a Democrat bill. That’s Democrats wanting to do that and they could solve it very easily by getting together.”
In May, Trump called for “pressure on the Democrats to end the horrible law that separates children (from) their parents once they cross the Border in the US.”
By signing his order just now, Trump has demonstrated that all of this was untrue, it was propaganda, or a fire house of fake news, to quote Breitbart back at itself. Democrats didn’t have to do anything, it wasn’t their law causing this. It was Trump’s zero tolerance policy, Session’s decision to enforce laws that forced the child separations. He has shown this was just a showdown, his politicking with the lives of innocent children. Trump allowed 2000 children to be taken from their parents in order to win a vote.
I know you know that, but half of America doesn’t.
I’m sure you have all heard Americans spouting Breitbart and other right wing media, or Trump’s Tweets, arguing that this situation was a creation of the liberal media, the fault of the Democrats, or Trump just obeying the law. Show this to them. Shine a light on this one. Trump lied, the right wing media lied with him.
The child separations were Trump’s creation, it was always in his power to stop it, and he just got out-witted, caved in, and admitted he was lying by signing an order that ends the child separations. The whole world just watched the President of America lie to his people, his government go along with the lie, and the right wing media act as a megaphone for his lie.
