Whilst I’m not quite done with Vietnam, I thought I’d save a little bit for your New Year getaway inspiration and get a start on my slightly more festive posts from my recent trip to the US. I say slightly more festive, as it’s rather hard to get in the spirit when you’re surrounded by palm trees and blue skies, but with a few adjustments (hello scarf and hat) I’m pretty sure this outfit could pass for winter wear. As you may or may not know, I usually make the trip to Las Vegas once a year to go and visit my family there, so it’s not your typical casino-hopping, flashing-lights style trip. It’s probably more a Walmart-and-snuggling with the dogs in front of the TV kind of trip (as you would have discovered if you follow on Snapchat!) Because I had no particular plans to head out and shoot, plus had complete uncertainty about what the weather would be like, I made sure to pack a versatile wardrobe that I could mix and match.
It’s weird how your surroundings can influence you because I’m sure there is a distinct American vibe to a pair of blue-wash jeans paired with plaid. Or maybe it’s just that I’ve been watching too much Friday Night Lights and fancied dressing like Tim Riggins (minus the cowboy boots…) If you’d like to see more from my previous trips to Vegas, take a look here! In fact, other than El Corte Ingles and Marina Banus in Puerto Banus, its the only Shopping Centre between Miramar Fuengirola and Algeciras which is why its so busy at times.
Its also busy because the parking is free and the whole shopping centre is undercover come rain or sunshine. If you are here on holiday then you will love all the shops which include the Spanish chains Mango, Zara and Massimo Dutti which are all cheaper here than in the UK. Trust me, I know…I like to shop, so if you need a new wardrobe, its worth buying it all here.This Shopping Centre has seen some major changes during the years we have lived here and has gone from a small, dark rather grotty shopping centre full of cigarette smoke to this large, bright, airy and modern shopping centre housing many top high street names like Apple, Marks & Spencer, C & A, Guess, Adidas, Benetton, Hollister and Habitat. Party Fiesta is a fantastic party / fancy dress shop where you will find everything you need for the perfect party. Tiger Store is the latest shop to open and we all still await Primark to sort out its problems.The huge Al Campo supermarket is in the centre of La Cañada and is still by far the best supermarket which sells absolutely everything including electrical, furniture, clothing, food and drink, its the the nearest thing we have to the UK’s Tescos.
As you enter La Cañada Parque Commercial there is a BP Petrol Station, Norauto Car Accessory Shop & Garage, Worten Electrical Store, Sport Zone, Leroy Merlin (which is like B&Q) and also a fantastic drive through car wash which really does clean the car well. Just outside Leroy Merlin there are a couple of busy cafes. There is even a place where you could leave the kids for a couple of hours, Camelot Park, details are further down the page.** (situated in a parade of shops inside the Alcampo supermarket area) Shoes & Accessories + Toys & Gifts + Bars & Cafes + : Carretera Ojén, Centro Comercial La Cañada, Marbella 29600 0034 952 866 134La Cañada is located on the A7-E15 (N340) ring road around Marbella, on the junction for “Ojen”, “Parque Commercial” and McDonalds. When leaving La Cañada to go direction Puerto Banus, you can either drive straight up back to the large roundabout and then join the N340 or you can join via the slip road by the Bomberos (Fire Station, just to the left of the Petrol Station).
We personally recommend joining via this slip road as where these two exits meet is an awful blackspot where many accidents occur.There are 2 types of buses. Main buses and local. The local buses called “Urbanos de Marbella” do go to La Cañada. Line 1, Line 3, Line 6 and the Night Bus. More information on Buses to La Canada Shopping CentreWe often get asked if there is a train station at La Canada Shopping Centre. Unfortunately there isn´t a train in Marbella, the train only goes as far as Fuengirola. You can read about trains here.There are two taxi ranks outside the main entrance. Marbella Taxis have now all been fitted with meters, so you can relax that you shouldn’t be overcharged. Their Telephone number is 952774488Camelot Park is a ball park for kids. You can either stay or leave your kids there whilst you shop. Camelot park is located in the Underground Car Park and normally open from 10:00am till 10:00pm, but I would call to check first of all on 952 764 766 or 669 378 764 or visit Camelot Marbella WebsiteCinesa Cinema is upstairs La Canada and has an 8 Screens.
Generally all films are in Spanish. You can check films showing, prices and book tickets here Cinema Website. If you want to see a film in English, we recommend going to Puerto Banus Cinema, although they have started showing the odd film in Original Version.Toilets can be found upstairs by Chicco, down passage way near Marks & Spencers and also opposite Alcampo Entrance downstairs. There are baby changing facilities and designated toilets for the disabled.There are lifts and escalators in the centre of the complex by the Apple Store, next to Marks & Spencers and a glass lift in the centre near Zara.There is also designated parking for disabled drivers. We have only seen parking for Mother & Toddler at Miramar Fuengirola Shopping Centre.There are loads of places to park and best of all its FREE. During the summer months we would advise parking underground as the cars get exceptionally hot. Wherever you park remember the number of your space as all the parking lanes look the same. If we ever park outside we always lose our car and are the idiots wandering around for ages click the car key in hope we will see the lights on the car flashing.
