If anything, I wished they had more minifigs included, like Gandalf, and a few more Moria Orcs... 9SEE IT NOW 1SEE IT NOW 2SEE IT NOW Price, Info, & Pics Price, Info, & PicsI’ve had quite a few readers asking if I would do a post about my top 10 LEGO sets of 2016. Since this is the last week of the year, I guess this is now a good time to do that post. According to Brickset, there was 828 sets released this year, including gift with purchase sets, so whittling it down to 10 is quite hard to do. Again, this is just my list of top 10 sets and may vary from other people. Probably one of the best items for any Ghostbusters fan is the Firehouse Headquarters (75827). Coming in at over 4,600 pieces, there is a ton of little details from both the original Ghostbusters movies that you can find. Check out my review of the set here. As one of the largest non-D2C LEGO Marvel Super Heroes set to be released, the Spider-Man: Web Warriors Ultimate Bridge (76057) is a great set with lots of exclusive minifigures included such as Scarlet Spider and Kraven. Many fans have even bought two sets to make a complete bridge.

This 3-in-1 set is a pretty neat set that looks great as the standard model but can also be rebuilt into a summer home and a yacht. The RV is one of the best models of this type of vehicle I’ve seen. Fans were surprised that LEGO released a series of Collectible Minifigures based on some memorable Disney characters but they’ve been a hit and have been well-received by the community. One of the more anticipated sets of the year due to its exposure during Toy Fair season was the LEGO City Fun in the Park – City People Pack (60134). The main things that made it stand out was the new wheelchair as well as the baby minifigure which were all new molds at the time. The Spider-Man: Ghost Rider Team-Up (76058) is one of my favorite LEGO Marvel Super Heroes sets of the year mainly because of the Ghost Rider minifigure. I’m sure many other fan feel the same way. The Hell Cycle isn’t a bad of a build either. The LEGO Creator line keeps coming out with great sets and this year’s vehicle was the Volkswagen Beetle (10252).

A very fun build combined with the nice color scheme makes it one of the best sets of 2016 for me. Check out my review here. The Porsche 911 GT3 RS (42056) was my first LEGO Technic build and I was very impressed with it from the packaging to the finished build. Although the price point is fairly high, the premium feel of the set as a whole justifies the price. LEGO Ideas has been stepping up with the details of the sets and the Caterham Seven 620R (21307) is a prime example of that. There’s a lot of little details in the set that makes it one of my top LEGO sets of 2016. Check out my full review of the set here. Out of all the D2C LEGO sets that have been released in 2016, probably the singular set that generated the most hype was the Disney Castle (71040). This massive set is packed with details from various Disney franchises which you can find throughout the build. The origin of the LEGO Group dates back to 1932, when Ole Kirk Christiansen began making wooden toys; but it was not until 1949 that the company started making the famous plastic interlocking bricks.

Since those early days, LEGO sets have become a firm favorite with children and adults alike, and there are many construction kits available, including themed sets based on popular franchises such as "Star Wars" and Marvel. Each set is only available for a limited time, and some are now highly sought after by collectors. LEGO Ideas, formerly LEGO Cuusoo, is a website where LEGO fans have the opportunity to show off their ingenuity with custom projects. LEGO lovers vote on the best projects and then LEGO makes official kits based on the designs. The "Ghostbusters" Ecto-1 is one such set, comprising the iconic vehicle from the science fiction horror comedy and all four of the "Ghostbusters" characters. The famous time machine from the "Back to the Future" franchise is another winner from the LEGO Ideas project. The construction set features Doc Brown and Marty McFly. The DeLorean has folding wheels to transform it into the flying version showcased at the end of the first film.

LEGO has been producing "Star Wars" construction kits since 1999, covering everything from individual space ships to recreations of famous scenes, such as the Cantina from "A New Hope," where Luke meets Han Solo for the first time. However, the most impressive set is 2007's Ultimate Collector's Millennium Falcon, a huge reproduction of the iconic craft comprising 5,195 pieces. LEGO does not only make sets based on franchises. The Technic LEGO range comprises an exciting range of vehicles and mechanical toys, which are more sophisticated than standard sets and attract a slightly older audience. The Grand Prix Racer from 2013 is particularly impressive. The Taj Mahal is LEGO's largest construction set. Released in 2010, it contains 5,922 pieces, exceeding in size even the epic Ultimate Collector's Millennium Falcon. Unlike smaller sets, the Taj Mahal is for experienced builders, giving grownups the perfect opportunity to play with LEGO. LEGO has released a number of sets based on Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings" movies, but none as impressive as the Tower of Orthanc.

This epic 2,359-piece set allows builders to recreate the scenes from the movie in which the Ents march on Sauron to tear down his mighty fortress. The Death Star set from 2008 is suitably impressive, comprising 3,803 pieces. It also boasts 24 minifigures, including several figures that are not available anywhere else. Many fans purchase sets just for the LEGO minifigure characters, making the Death Star a great deal. It's a bad day for Batman when all the villains break out of Arkham Asylum, but it is a good day for any brick fan receiving the massive Arkham breakout construction set. Released in 2012, this exciting play set features eight minifigures, including exclusive versions of Batman and several key villains. An Unexpected Gathering is a loving recreation of Bilbo's Hobbit hole from Peter Jackson's first "The Hobbit" movie. It is a fun build, with a range of play accessories and six minifigures. From the release of the hilarious "The LEGO Movie" in 2014, the company released several sets in association with this big-screen adventure.
