There's something about finishing off a Lego set that feels quite rewarding--the bigger and trickier the better. You then usually add it to your collection on the window ledge or shelf and admire your collection. However, there's one guy who's collection is so big, not only does it take up most of his house, but also .Marine Corps' Captain Kyle Ugone from Arizona has 1251 different Lego sets scattered across his home in Yuma. Each set is organized by its theme, ranging from Star Wars sets to the likes of space, castles, and trains--his biggest box set contained over 5000 individual pieces in order to complete. The collection is so cool, it could probably make some Lego theme parks blush.Kyle received his first set when he was five (a windmill, which he still has now), and is still hooked to the little plastic bricks. He brought in the Guiness Book of Records to check out his collection after being informed that in order to be the first to claim the title, he would need at least 500 official sets.

Out of his collection, 1091 make him the current record holder. The remaining few were reporductions or didn't have the original instructions, so they don't count. There are over 5000 Lego box sets out there, some of which are pretty rare or location-specific, so it will be interesting to see if anyone contends for Kyle's spot at the top. In the meantime, Kyle is slowly regaining control of his house by dismantling some of the sets, and turning his attention to a new project: restoring a classic muscle car.I reckon one of the many GeekTech readers could potentially have enough sets to steal Kyle's crown. Available starting August 1, the excavator stands a mighty 41cm tall and 71cm long with its rotating bucket wheel fully extended. It lumbers along on working tank treads and includes countless moving features including conveyor belts that carry debris away (or unneeded Lego) and a rotating superstructure. Pricing details haven't been revealed yet, but you can expect the new set to come at a premium given Lego's 2704-piece Technic Porsche 911 GT3 RS will set you back $US300 ($396). But for added value, the Bucket Wheel Excavator includes a motor to power all of its functional features, as well as a properly scaled steerable dump truck for your make-believe construction site. Is that still not enough to have you reaching for your credit card? The set also has alternate building instructions to turn the excavator into a slightly-less-exciting Mobile Aggregate Processing Plant. But with Lego half the fun is the building process, and both of these models should keep you busy for at least a few weeks.

LEGO and Star Wars have a unique love affair, with the Danish toymaker putting out comprehensive LEGO sets after each franchise installment that have inspired successive generations to tinker about with the vehicles and set pieces that they see on the big screen. However, nothing designed by LEGO comes close to the ardor that one particular fan — who goes by Marshal Banana — has for one particular spaceship from the series, specifically the iconic Millennium Falcon. The LEGO replica which he created from 7,500 LEGO pieces is the purest expression of his love for Star Wars, measuring at 22 pounds and three feet in length, and taking a whole year to plan and construct. The level of detail in Marshal Banana’s creation, from the guns and pipes to the lit-up engine, puts the official LEGO replicas to shame — in comparison, the standard model by LEGO consists of 1,329 pieces, while the biggest Star Wars model ever produced is the $6,000 USD Ultimate Collectors Series Falcon, which falls short at a mere 5,000 pieces.

Take a look at the magnum opus above, and check out more of Marshal Banana’s work at his Flickr page. What to Read NextComing June 1, the LEGO Minecraft Village is a $199 box containing 1,600 pieces used to create something an 11-year-old could create on their computer in an hour. Plus it comes with an enderman, which is somehow scarier in LEGO form. Look at this beautiful box filled with fabulous prizes. It’s the sort of box LEGO reps who tell me to feel free to ask for anything I’d like to review for Toy Time say “Oh, not that one” about. Definitely not this one. As the rep who gave me a tour during Toy Fair this year said, Minecraft is currently LEGO’s best-selling licensed property, so it’s about time they put that best-sellingness to the test with a truly pricey playset. Arranged in the recommended configuration, The Village measures 5 inches tall, 17 inches wide and 19 inches deep. If I am doing my math correctly here I wouldn’t know, but it takes up a significant amount of desk space I imagine.

Want to hold an open house and invite your friends over? Oh, and these are the people in your neighborhood. Just your normal, everyday villagers. Nothing to see here. The Village is an expansive (and expensive) set, packed with squares taking the place of things that are normally squares in the first place. I really do love the look of these sets. I’ve been itching to buy more LEGO Minecraft since I put together the First Night set last year. The only thing holding me back, and this might sound silly, is I haven’t played enough Minecraft the game to feel entitled to buying more Minecraft the LEGO sets. That and I am seriously running out of room. Best to get it out of my system in one village-sized building marathon come June 1.COME SEE WHAT EVERYONE IN THE TREASURE VALLEY!!
