Here’s what you had to say: I’m only browsing the comments to see if anyone has a serious answer that is not the Tommy Bahama chair. - Seattle ScampiThese are the exact chairs we use, and the current set is going into its third summer. The only damage they sustained thus far is discoloration, but that was expected. - TraneFromUkraineDon’t forget to grab a good umbrella to go with them. Some orders may take 6 weeks to be From what I understand, neither the Wailea Marriott nor the Sheraton Kaanapali provide beach chairs. You can rent (at substantial cost) lounge chairs with shade at either location by the pool or beach but that seems about it--or go out at 6am and put your towel on a lounge chair by the pool. None of which appeal to me being on vacation. So when I stop at Costco for drinks and snacks on the way to our hotel form the airport, should I just buy us a couple beach chairs? Sure would seem the most convenient and cheapest way to go about things.

Also, since we'll obviously have luggage with us, should I be concerned about someone breaking into our car while it's in the Costco shopping lot? What can I possibly do about that? It's a Mustang convertible so probably not enough room in the trunk for 2 carry-ons and 2 check-ins. Please advise and Thank You! You can rent beach chairs for 15-20$ a week from snorkel gear rental places. Snorkel Bob might work out well for you as there are shops in both South & West Maui and you can return the goods to any of them. Chairs aren't advertised per se on the website but I'm almost positive they rent the Tommy Bahama ones that Costco sells. As far as luggage in the Mustang - The trunk is a pretty good size when the top is up. Do the Costco thing before you let the sunshine in. Secure everything you don't need to take shopping in the trunk at the airport and don't open it in the Costco lot after you park. If your carry on doesn't fit, I'd shove 'em in a shopping cart and drag them into the store with me.

Point them out to the door person on the way in. It's possible they may ask you to check them at the service desk. I've taken a cooler & insulated bags into the store and they didn't blink. If you decide to buy the chairs at Costco, instead of renting, you could always drop them off at a thrift store on your way to the airport at the end of your stay. Great to support them that way. Or find a family on the beach and pass them on! Another alternative at Costco, if you don't want to drag in the carry on luggage, is to leave someone in the car. You can leave the windows open then too, so it isn't so hot when you come back out. Lots of people will be stopping at Costco, straight from the airport. There seems to be people coming and going there constantly, so it "should" be safer there, than other locations around Maui. The Costco parking lot is always packed with people and cars passing by, I would image that it is not a good place for bad people to break into cars. They can get caught very easily.

I do love those Tommy Bahama beach chairs they sell at Costco...maybe you can splurge on those, then drop them off at the Savers(location donation place) at Kahului when you go home. One destination mentioned in this post Check on Criagslist, sometimes people are looking to buy them. Virtually no one on Maui drives a Mustang convertible, except tourists. It kind of screams, "rob me" to the local thugs and druggies. While the Costco parking area is generally quite safe, a few reads of the bi-monthly crime log will show car break ins at their parking lots. I would recommend taking a few extra minutes driving around in circles to find some parking closer to the entrance area. Edited: 6:26 pm, May 30, 2015Parking an open convertable anywhere on Maui with valuables in it is just asking for trouble. It only tales a second to lift something and no one knows whose car is whose!! That's what we did back in April. We rented 2 Tommy Bahama chairs plus umbrella for around $40 for the week.

Right in Kaanapali behind the Sheraton is the Snorkel Store - easy peasy if you are staying nearby. There are coupons to be had - do a search on Bing if interested. Edited: 10:03 pm, May 30, 2015 I didn't want to rent the snorkel equipment or beach chairs and umbrella unless we absolutely had to because we'll only be in Maui for a week (1/2 of the time in Wailea and 1/2 of the time in Kaanapali) and I didn't want to worry about having to make 4 extra stops to rent and return equipment. However, if we will need to rent boogie boards anyway, I may rethink the chair rentals. Is there somewhere near the airport that I could rent all of it? Eden, don't worry about it! You may be busy doing other things and no point in renting stuff that sits. It's easy to get stuff when and where you need to. Don't stress about it. Edited: 12:53 am, May 31, 2015Also, to whoever mentioned leaving the convertible top down while parked at a store, I would never do that! (I grew up in the Chicago area and worked on the south side of Chicago for years--I'm pretty crime-aware savvy but had never had experience with the window smashing to get items so that was good to be prewarned about.)
