- Posted on Friday, 20 June 2014 Jamie and Gidania celebrated in style for their Art Deco-themed wedding reception at Capella Singapore, where the partying never stopped and cigars and whiskey were aplenty in true 1920’s fashion. Shot by Samuel Goh Photography, the nuptials dazzled with opulent décor, eclipsed only by the joy of family and friends in attendance. How did you decorate your venue? “We had the lovely pillar-less grand ballroom at Capella to work around. We chose champagne-coloured table cloths and napkins, paired with gold floral centrepieces and tiffany chairs to create a luxe 1920s feel. We chose white and blue flowers and added LED lights to create a more romantic ambience. Giving our guests an enjoyable time was our priority. We made sure that we had sufficient entertainment in Bali and Singapore for all our guests. We both love music so it was important that we had a band perform for both receptions. In Singapore, we had a slow motion video booth that was very popular with our guests.
Our friends didn’t know how the finished product would look like but were sporting enough to act goofy and play around. We also had a portrait cutter during the reception and instant photo printouts for guests to be able to bring home mementos from our wedding. My cousin Abbeygayle prepared a lovely and delicious dessert bar for us, too! In line with our 1920s theme, we made use of Capella’s outdoor space, The Portico, and converted it to a cigar and whiskey bar. We had a cigar expert and mixologist entertain guests all night. We had more than 100 bottles of champagne, 50 bottles of wine and 40 bottles of whiskey to ensure everyone was positively buzzed when they left.” ~ Gidania Do you have any fun facts to share about your relationship? “I’ve always had this theory that how you spend New Year’s is how you’ll spend the rest of the year, hence Jamie asked me to be his girlfriend on the 1st of January 2011, proposed on 1st of January 2012 and we got married on the 1st of January 2014, on our 3rd year anniversary.” ~ Gidania
What tips or advice would you like to give to other brides and grooms to-be? “Agreeing on the budget and how much you both are willing to spend is the first step to ensuring that the wedding planning process goes smoothly. We had many moments of tension during the planning due to differing opinions and both of us insisting on our views but we would always give in to one another depending on who liked what more. To cut costs, you can try to tap into the talents of your friends to assist with simple design tasks, such as the menu, placemat, placards etc. There should always be some DIY elements to make the wedding truly your own. I was very hesitant about holding our celebration in Singapore, especially at a ballroom, because I’m not a fan of cookie-cutter hotel weddings. However, I couldn’t find a suitable venue to accommodate the activities and number of guests that we had so we decided to go with Capella. To make up for it, we really transformed the reception and outdoor areas so our guests would still have a unique experience.
For the ballroom, we invested in additional flowers and LED lights to make the setting more romantic.” ~ Gidania What do you think makes a strong marriage? “Compromise is the key to a happy and long lasting relationship.
