Skip to main content area The LEGO Movie DVD and Blu-ray release date Few films so far this year have been such a geeky treasure trove of joy as Chris Miller and Phil Lord's The LEGO Movie. Featuring a song that lives in your ears seemingly for the rest of time - that'd be Everything Is Awesome - the film is set to be watched lots and lots of times when the DVD and Blu-ray release comes around. That's in addition to the many times it's already been seen at the cinema - its worldwide box office haul to date stands at $424m. A date, at least in the US, for the DVD and Blu-ray has now been revealed too. And The LEGO Movie will be arriving on home formats on June 17th 2014. We don't have a UK release date yet, but would imagine that it'll be around the same time. Amazon US also lists an 'Everything Is Awesome Blu-ray Edition', which comes with a Vitruvius minifigure, a 3D photo of Emmet, and a bonus 3D movie. And be our Facebook chum here. With less than a month to go before the premiere of The LEGO Batman Movie, Warner Bros. is showing no signs of slowing down the promo train as they've unleashed not one but two new TV spots. The first promo hints at a possible romance (LEGO Movie-style, of course) between Bruce Wayne and Barbara Gordon, and we get to see our hero literally fall in love with Gotham City's new commissioner. Not sure how this is going to work, as she seems totally oblivious to the charm of everyone's favorite lonely billionaire playboy and his Dark Knight alter ego. The second promo reveals what a superhero does in his spare time. [Hint: cook one's own dinner in a microwave.] The LEGO Batman Movie is helmed by Chris McKay (Robot Chicken) from a script co-written by Seth Grahame-Smith (Pride & Prejudice & Zombies) and Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers (Spider-Man: Homecoming). The movie assembles a stellar cast that includes Will Arnett as Batman, Michael Cera as Robin, Rosario Dawson as Batgirl, Ralph Fiennes as Alfred Pennyworth, Jenny Slate as Harley Quinn, Billy Dee Williams as Two-Face (yes!), Mariah Carey as Gotham City Mayor McCaskill and Zach Galifianakis as The Joker.

In the irreverent spirit of fun that made The LEGO Movie a worldwide phenomenon, the self-described leading man of that ensemble – LEGO Batman – stars in his own big-screen adventure. But there are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker's hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up. The LEGO Batman Movie will arrive in theaters on Feb. 10. Although the idea seems ludicrous, no film surprised me more in the last few years than The LEGO Movie. The film that everyone believed would be nothing but a cynical cash grab ended up being a huge surprise and an utterly delightful film.

The LEGO Batman Movie doesn’t have the creative geniuses of Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the film does seem to have the same cheeky, irreverent humor. A new extended TV spot has been revealed for the film, which you can check out below: I’m still not completely sure this film is necessary, but the film did make me laugh and I’m enjoying how the film is exploring the DC Universe. Many, myself included, have been disappointed by how Warner Bros has been taking the DC Universe, and it’s fun to see a lighter and more self aware take on these characters. Batman has seen more films than any other superhero, and it’s cool to see a different take on the character. Will Arnett is still perfect in my mind as Batman, and his humor completely fits the tone of what the film is going for. The new TV spot gives us an extended look at Zack Galifinakis’s Joker, who I think looks to be the scene stealer of the film. The film definitely seems to be including a lot more villains, so it should be interesting to see a more humorous take on Batman’s Rogue Gallery.
