The LEGO Batman Movie is now the number one movie in the entire country, and for good reason. The hilarious ride excited audiences both young and old, and the film found a way to capture the essence of DC comics without taking itself too seriously. Come to find out, the movie may have been even smarter than anyone realized. During an interview with EW, director Chris McKay revealed that the movie wasn't just worried about itself. In fact, The LEGO Batman Movie has helped to set up an entire connected LEGO universe, and the events of the film's ending will definitely affect the upcoming LEGO movie sequel. McKay was first asked about the meta-references in both LEGO films, and he noted that that was kind of their style moving forward. In his answer, he revealed that everything is not only awesome, but totally connected. "Everyone says this, but for lack of a better phrase, there’s a LEGO cinematic universe that we’re building that has a sci-fi premise, as far as the world that the movies are taking place in for the majority of the running time, and the other world that’s out there.

I think over the course of the movies, we’re building out the relationship between those. There’s no mandate necessarily to do that, but we are very actively working to find all of the rules and develop that relationship between the real world and the LEGO world. You’ll start to see it in what we’re doing with Ninjago and what what we’re doing in LEGO 2." This led the interviewer to ask McKay about LEGO 2, and it Batman will have an appearance. "There’s definitely a part for Batman in LEGO 2. Everyone loves Will Arnett and the Batman character. There are going to be the repercussions of what’s happened in [LEGO Batman]. If you agree that he went through some change, there’s more stuff in store for Batman in LEGO 2." Of all the connected cinematic universes out there, who knew LEGO would be the one we're all excited about? Have you seen LEGO Batman yet?
