SHERMAN OAKS—A New Jersey woman has been charged with attempting to steal a police vehicle after a police pursuit that started in Sherman Oaks and ended in Chatsworth. Khianna Reynolds, 30, is facing one felony count each of carjacking, grand theft auto, driving or taking a vehicle without consent, fleeing a pursuing peace officer’s motor vehicle while driving recklessly and attempted driving or taking of law enforcement vehicle without consent. Reynolds is also facing three misdemeanor counts of hit and run driving resulting in property damage. According to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office, the suspect was charged on March 29 and pleaded not guilty during her arraignment. Her bail was set at $145,000. On March 27, Reynolds allegedly stole a Toyota Tacoma while the owner was unloading groceries in her home, prosecutors noted. When the Los Angeles Police Department were alerted about the theft and the truck was sighted, the suspect fled while driving erratically at high speeds.
As authorities pursued the suspect, Reynolds is accused of striking several cars on the 101 Freeway. There were no reports of any serious injuries sustained. The chase ended near Nordhoff Street and Topanga Canyon Boulevard. When Reynolds appeared that she was surrendering to police, she allegedly tried to steal an LAPD Ford Explorer, prosecutors said. The defendant is expected back in court on Monday, April 11 for a preliminary hearing in Department 112 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Van Nuys Branch. The case is still under investigation by officials from the Los Angeles Police Department, Van Nuys Station.
