The LEGO Movie Sequel[3] is an upcoming movie that will be released in 2019. On February 3, 2014, Jared Stern was hired to write a sequel, along with Michelle Morgan [4]. On February 21, 2014, it was announced that the sequel was scheduled to be released on May 26, 2017[5]. On March 12, 2014, Deadline reported that co-editor Chris McKay will direct the sequel with Lord and Miller as producers [6]. Warner Bros. did not invite co-producer Village Roadshow Pictures to return as a participant in the sequel[7] because the film will be produced in Vancouver, VRP will be replaced by a Canadian studio with a similar occupation. On April 10, 2014, it was reported that director Chris McKay wants more women in the sequel than men[8]. On July 28, 2014, it was reported that Chris Pratt wants to return to reprise his role of Emmet[9].




In October 2014, Warner Bros. scheduled The LEGO Batman Movie, a spin-off starring Batman for 2017, which moved The Lego Movie Sequel to 2018[10] [11]. Will Arnett is set to return to voice Batman, while Chris McKay, who was earlier attached to the sequel, will direct the film which is being written by Seth Grahame-Smith and produced by Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Phil Lord and Chris Miller [12]. On April 20, 2015, Warner Bros. scheduled The LEGO Batman Movie, for a February 10, 2017 release date[13] and The LEGO Movie 2 for a 2018 release. On October 25, 2014, it was reported that Phil Lord and Chris Miller had signed to write The LEGO Movie sequel [14] instead of Jared Stern and Michelle Morgan. The writers have implied that the sequel will take place four years after the events of the first film [15]. In February 2015, Warner Bros. announced that the title of the sequel had been changed to The LEGO Movie Sequel, and that Rob Schrab replaced McKay as director since McKay went to direct The LEGO Batman Movie [16].




According to an interview at the Santa Barbara Film Festival, the sequel will also introduce Emmet's sister. On April 20, 2015, Warner Bros. scheduled The Lego Movie Sequel for a May 18, 2018 release date[17]. On June 17, 2016, the film's release was delayed to February 8, 2019[18]. On July 8, 2016, Warner Bros. hired Raphael Bob-Waksberg to rewrite the script[19]. It will be the fourth film in the franchise, set to follow the releases of both of the first film's spin-off films, The Lego Batman Movie and The Lego Ninjago Movie, set to be released in 2017.




It is being directed by Mike Mitchell,[1] with Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, writers and directors of the first film, returning as producers and co-writers. After it became clear that the first film would become a blockbuster success, a sequel was already in the works even before its release. However, Warner Bros. did not invite Village Roadshow Pictures, the first film's Australian production partner, to participate in the making of the sequel. Currently, there has been no indication as to whether any cast members from the original film, such as Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Liam Neeson, and Morgan Freeman, will reprise their roles in the sequel. The film is set to be released on February 8, 2019 in 2D, 3D, RealD 3D, and IMAX 3D by Warner Bros. Pictures. Even before the critical acclaim and blockbuster success of The Lego Movie, plans for a sequel had already been set in motion.
