If you saw my post for the April 2017 LEGO Store Calendar, you probably saw that the US is finally getting the LEGO Creator Mini Volkswagen Beetle (40252) as part of a promotion. It is a 141 piece set that is basically a smaller version of the Volkswagen Beetle (10252) which was released last year. We will be getting it from April 1-15, while supplies last, with purchases of $50 or more at LEGO Stores and on [email protected] The April 2017 LEGO Store Calendar is now available and we can see some of the promotions and events for the month. LEGO House Website Now Live – LEGO launched a new website for their LEGO House which opens in September. The LEGO Batman Movie The Ultimate Batmobile (70919) Revealed – LEGO revealed one of the new The LEGO Batman Movie sets with The Ultimate Batmobile (70917). LEGO New York Toy Fair Set Images – The 2017 New York Toy Fair kicked off and there were a lot of images for the upcoming summer 2017 LEGO sets. LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Spider-Man: Homecoming Sets Revealed – During the NY Toy Fair, some of the sets for LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Spider-Man: Homecoming were shown off. LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 17 Revealed – Also shown off at the Toy Fair was the characters for the Series 17 LEGO Collectible Minifigures. LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales The Silent Mary (71042) Officially Revealed – The last major thing that was revealed at the Toy Fair was the LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales The Silent Mary (71042).




LEGO Ideas Second 2016 Set Winner Announced – The winning LEGO Ideas project for the Second 2016 Review Stage was announced to be the Women of NASA. A reader has let me know this morning that there are some LEGO minifigure plushies that has been released in stores or will be released soon. Currently, there are four characters to choose from including Batman (853652) and Batgirl (853653) from The LEGO Batman Movie and Kai (853691) and Nya (853692) from LEGO Ninjago. Each minifigure plush will stand 12″ tall and are made with brushed tricot fabric with silkscreen-printed decoration. Update: They have shown up on . Today is the last day for the promotion to get The LEGO Batman Movie Disco Batman/Tears of Batman (30607) polybag at LEGO Stores and on . You can get it for free with purchases of $75 or more. The polybag is fairly easy to get especially with a lot of new sets already available. I’ve already done a review of the polybag if you haven’t checked it out yet.




LEGO Ideas has announced the winner of the Second 2016 Review Stage and it is the Women of NASA. This set was stated to be releases in late 2017 or early 2018. In addition, the Voltron – Defender of the Universe project is still under consideration so that could also be a set in the future. The results of that will be announced at the Third 2016 Review results. There were twelve projects that qualified for review which included Voltron – Defender of the Universe, Spaceballs – Eagle 5, The Addams Family Mansion, the Merchant’s House, the Large Hadron Collider, LEGO Observatory – Mountain View, Modular Construction Site, the Women of NASA, Star Wars UCS X34 Landspeeder, Lamborghini Veneno Roadster, Lovelace & Babbage, and The Plum Creek – The Little House on the Prairie. Honestly, the Women of NASA project didn’t really surprise me because LEGO does have a partnership with NASA and there are a few space-themed sets already including the upcoming Saturn V one for later this year.

We got a new trailer today for The LEGO Batman Movie, and it does not disappoint. The LEGO Batman Movie stars Will Arnett as Batman, Ralph Fiennes as Alfred, and Michael Cera as Robin. You can catch it in theaters February 10, 2017. In case you missed it, LEGO will be releasing sets along with the movie, many of which were revealed at New York Comicon.LEGO has also announced two new LEGO Batman Movie sets this morning. They will be available in January.

Click to see more images! Following on from the success of The LEGO Movie, Warner Bros have announced both The LEGO Batman Movie and The LEGO Ninjago movie. Yesterday, USA Today released a clip of an animated short from the latter, entitled “The Master battles a chicken”. The LEGO Ninjago Movie is due in theaters September 22, 2017, and features a stellar cast including Jackie Chan as Master Wu. The short will play before Storks, due to open in theaters September 23, 2016. If you even think about bringing government, baby sitters, bedtimes, frowny faces, bushy mustaches, or negativity of any kind into her town then she’s gonna do to your face what Limp Bizkit did to music in the late 90s!




Grantmasters, continuing in his quest to find new and exciting uses for that Belville shoe, created this adorable mash-up of everyone’s favorite brick-built pony-cat and the foul-mouthed antihero that’s currently tearing up the box office. Cotton-candy coated chimichangas anyone? When you’re scouting for things worth blogging, it’s easy for your head to get turned by enormous creations or complex builds. However, sometimes it can be a relatively simple model in a good composition which catches the eye. This neat diorama from city.s is a great example of how a clean building style, decent photography, and a touch of humor can create an arresting image (pun absolutely intended)… The color contrast in the picture is excellent, with the red of the “resistance piece car” really popping against the blue sky backdrop. And the brick-built vehicle itself and the road surface are nicely done. But the choice of face for the Emmett minifig was the touch of detail which made me smile.




And, when it comes down to it, surely that’s what a LEGO creation is for? Unikitty is one of my favorite characters from The LEGO Movie, but I don’t know that I love all the line-ups of Unikitty variations I’m constantly running across. But this one is different. tankm has built nineteen different Unikitties as characters from the entire Star Wars saga. Here are my three favorites, conveniently in a single picture — Unikitty Chewie, Unikitty Han Solo, and Unikitty Han Solo in carbonite. I also like Luke & Leia’s parents — the expression on Unikitty Queen Amidala’s face is priceless. “The Birth of Venus” by Sandro Botticelli is one of those paintings that you study in Art History, poring over the symbolism and innovative Renaissance techniques until the painting becomes one with the millions of reproductions you’ve seen all your life, losing any interest or meaning it may have had. (Clearly, I much prefer “Primavera”…) So, I’m always pleased to run across a refreshing new take on a classic work of art.




Polish builder Bartłomiej Sekuła has built a three-dimensional version of the painting reminiscent of a tableau vivant, with minifigs representing each of the figures in the original work. That’s actually pretty cool on its own, but Bartłomiej goes one step further with a parody version of this iconic scene. Click for the big reveal! from The LEGO Movie — need I say more? I had an opportunity to review LEGO Movie 70814 Emmet’s Construct-o-Mech Building Set, provided for us by LEGO. The set runs $59.99 USD, with 708 pieces.I like the set. I think it’s got an excellent selection of parts overall. I enjoyed the build thoroughly. There are some excellent details to the model overall that make it appear particularly impressive. It looks really nifty. After having built it, though? I can’t say I’d pay full price for it. Let’s explore more, shall we? Welcome back fight fans, to Sin City Nevada for another round of Friday Night Fights. Tonight we join an ongoing fray, as the LEGO world continues to be gripped with Exo-suit mania. Hec, even the animals are getting in on the action! But let’s up the ante and give this a cinematic twist, shall we? In the R-rated corner, we have a recreation of an A.P.U. from The Matrix Trilogy by Niki Dregant: While over in the PG-rated corner, lurks a Unikitty-piloted Cloud Cuckoo Land Mech by Martin Gee:

On the last edition of Friday Night Fights, Devil in the architecture Details, Nick Barrett’s Georgian town house prevailed with a monumental score of 11-0. Being the only builder gutsy enough ever to attempt a minifig scaled version of Howl’s moving castle, it’s comes as no surprise to discover that Imagine Rigney was behind this mind-bending recreation of the fall of Cloud Cuckoo Land from The LEGO Movie… But the diorama just wouldn’t be complete without our heros escaping in the Bat Submarine. So he build that too, naturally. This makes me really wish LEGO would put out more official sets based on that particular region of the LEGO Movie universe. However, if anyone suggests the above creations be submitted as projects to the Lego Ideas site, be warned: I will reach through the screen and slap you!
