See You Next Wednesday See You Next Wednesday turns 100 this week! It’s been a long, hard road but we’ve persevered to become one of the foremost providers of inane chatter. Our sincere thanks to our listeners; without you we would just be three idiots in a room talking to ourselves. This week Dan and Casey saw The Lego Movie and piece together a glowing review. Then Greg goes back to school to learn how to become a shitty vampire with the help of the utterly banal Vampire Academy. Then Greg and Casey feel Dan’s former pain by revisiting the “music” from Shrek: The Musical. All this plus Blue Jasmine, Magnifico, talk of Modern Superior’s brand new show The Dew Over and more! Also, don’t forget to check out the Flesh + Blood: The Films of Paul Verhoeven retrospective at TIFF Lightbox Theatre from Jan 24th – April 4th. You can find us on Twitter, Facebook, LibSyn and iTunes. This Week On Rdio: February 4th, 2014 Episode 50 - Love Stinks

This is a garbage heap of weak quips, delivered by an assortment of pretty boys and girls and amped up with some cheesy moments of animal cruelty. February 13, 2014 | Not only plays like the crassest possible mashup of "Harry Potter" and "Twilight" elements, but seems designed to make those franchises look like eternal monuments of world culture by comparison. February 11, 2014 | This attempt to capture the magic of the "Twilight" and "Harry Potter" franchises tries too hard to pack all the backstory and borrowings into one film. February 9, 2014 | [Mr. Waters] doesn't seem especially interested in the supernatural parts of "Vampire Academy," and he clearly didn't have the budget to make what little hocus-pocus there is magical. Ultimately more "Meaningless" than "Mean Girls," "Vampire Academy" is a busy, overcomplicated empowerment fantasy with more hormones than brain cells. February 7, 2014 | The only thing that distinguishes this teen-magnet wannabe from its predecessors is how lazily it appears to have been slapped together.

After Joaquin Phoenix withdrew from acting in October 2008, he grew a beard, started rapping and began acting like a world-class weirdo. Casey Affleck made a thoroughly-watchable documentary about it and then admitted it was all a hoax, which technically means Phoenix never left acting at all. Either way, the two-time Academy Award-winning actor may be making his official return to acting in the screen adaptation of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Green (author of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies). Phoenix has been offered the role of Henry, an ageless figure who teaches the 16th President of the United States to throw axes and kill bloodsuckers with the best of them. At this time, Phoenix has met about the project but has yet to accept the role. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is set to be directed by Timur Bekmambetov (Night Watch, Wanted) and produced by Tim Burton. We're sorry, you've either entered an invalid address, or followed a broken link.
