Parents are encouraged to attend students' classes and get in on the fun. This season's offerings include methods of flight, chemistry investigations, computer programming and STEM activities for young divas. Students will learn all about the science of Star Wars as they create their own handheld “hologram projectors,” explore the science behind The Force, and even build their own working light sabers! Our STEM Divas will explore basic chemistry as they make their own candies and scented lotions, as well engineering and design as they create projects such as light-up flowers and heart-shaped string art. Students will learn the importance of critical thinking and deduction as they develop the skills needed to solve the puzzle.
From analyzing fingerprints to using logic to rule out suspects, students will learn about many of the tools used by real detectives to solve real crimes while working together to solve a mystery of their own. Suggested Ages: 7 and upPrice: $60Register here Arduinos are small computers that can be used to create a wide variety of different electronic projects. In this class students will learn some of the different ways that Arduinos can be used in their own projects, and the basics of programming them. In-class projects will range from lighting LEDs to creating an interactive game. Students will have the option to purchase the board they used in class, so they can continue the fun after the class has finished. (Students may purchase a Redboard for $20 at the end of the class. This does not include the entire kit, but only the board. Your registration confirmation email will include information on where to purchase the same kit we will be using in class.) Come get your bling on with our wearable technology class. In this class students will create their own small electric circuits that can be used to add lights and other tech to their fashions. Students will learn about electricity and LEDs, as well as soldering and basic circuitry. In this exciting class, students will learn all about the mechanics of movement as they create their own wacky machine. They will explore the six different types of Simple Machines, and learn how they can work together to create more complex and interesting interactions. In this class, students will get a hands-on look at the different components that work together to create their favorite electronic devices.
They will explore concepts of electricity and the functions of some common types of electrical components that can be found in all electronic devices. Students will also develop basic soldering skills as they learn to solder these components. Registration price includes the cost of the electronics project which the students will be able to take home after the class. In this class, we’ll do that! The first meeting will be held in our STEM Classroom in DeKalb, and we will spend the day learning about the science of flight and creating our own hot air balloons and other flying craft. The second session will be held at iFLY in Naperville. Here, students will be guided through interactive presentations, demos in the wind tunnel and STEM lab actives. Every student will be trained by the iFLY flight instructors before entering the unique vertical wind tunnel and experiencing indoor skydiving.
Price includes the iFLY admission on May 6. NOTE: First meeting ONLY will be at DeKalb campus. May 6th we will all meet at iFLY Naperville. Transportation to iFLY is NOT provided.
