The Best Oscars Fun Fact (If You're a Batman Fan) During an Oscars night that was mostly fueled by politics -- from Patricia Arquette's moving female-equality speech to Common's powerful "Glory" acceptance speech to Citizenfour winning Best Documentary -- it was The Lego Movie's silent protest that may have stolen the show.
The Lego Movie wasn't nominated in the Best Animated Feature category (see all of the night's winners here), and so when it came time for a performance of the film's song, "Everything Is Awesome," which was nominated (but lost to "Glory"), members of the massive ensemble handed out Lego Oscars to a bunch of the celebrities in the audience. Then, for the remainder of the evening, every other shot of a celeb featured them clutching their Lego Oscar -- and whether they realized it or not, all of those shots added up to one hilariously awesome silent protest. Batman fans who paid close attention to the performance probably noticed that not only was Batman there rocking out, but inside the Bat-suit was none other than Will Arnett, who voiced the character in The Lego Movie. Home Entertainment is teaming up with Fathom Events for a one-night-only release in movie theaters across the country on Monday, July 25, 2016 in two showings at 7:30pm and 10pm local time.
Remember, The Killing Joke is rated R, and standard cinema restrictions will apply. The screenings hit just three days after the film's world premiere at San Diego Comic-Con on July 22, and one day before the movie is available in Digital HD on July 26, so fans who can't attend Comic-Con still have the opportunity to see the movie before it's officially released. There will be special intros and outros presented along with the film that are exclusive to the theatrical release, as well. The movie hits Blu-Ray and DVD on August 2, 2016. or at participating theater box offices. Fans throughout the U.S. will be able to enjoy the event in select movie theaters through Fathom’s Digital Broadcast Network.
